Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), an abundant phytochemical in green tea, is an antioxidant that also binds proteins and complex metals. After gastrointestinal absorption, EGCg binds to serum albumin in the hydrophobic pocket between domains IIA and IIIA and overlaps with the Sudlow I site. Serum albumin also has two metal binding sites, a high-affinity N-terminal site (NTS) site that selectively binds Cu(II), and a low-affinity, less selective multi-metal binding site (MBS).

Exploring the Gating Mechanism of the Human Copper Transporter, hCtr1, Using EPR Spectroscopy.

Biomolecules

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, Faculty of Exact Sciences, Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan 5290002, Israel.

Ctr1 is a membrane-spanning homotrimer that facilitates copper uptake in eukaryotic cells with high affinity. While structural details of the transmembrane domain of human Ctr1 have been elucidated using X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM, the transfer mechanisms of copper and the conformational changes that control the gating mechanism remain poorly understood. The role of the extracellular N-terminal domains is particularly unclear due to the absence of a high-resolution structure of the full-length hCtr1 protein and limited biochemical and biophysical characterization of the transporter in solution and in cell.

C NMR chemical shifts ((C)) were analysed MO theory, together with the origin, using (C), (C) and (C), where C was selected as the standard for the analysis since (C: C) = 0 ppm. An excellent relationship was observed between (C) and the charges on C for (C, C, C, C and C) and (C, CH , CH and CH). However, such a relationship was not observed for the carbon species other than those above.

Spin Magnetic Effect Activate Dual Site Intramolecular O─O Bridging for Nickel-Iron Hydroxide Enhanced Oxygen Evolution Catalysis.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

Institution Faculty of Arts and Sciences & Center for Advanced Materials Research, Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, 519087, China.

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) involves the recombination of diamagnetic hydroxyl (OH) or water (HO) into the paramagnetic triplet state of oxygen (O). The spin conservation of oxygen intermediates plays a crucial role in OER, however, research on spin dynamics during the catalytic process remains in its early stages. Herein, β-Ni(OH) and Fe-doped β-Ni(OH) (NiFe(OH)) are utilized as model catalysts to understand the mechanism of spin magnetic effects at iron (III) sites during OER.

Non-invasive electron paramagnetic resonance imaging detects tumor redox imbalance induced by ferroptosis.

Redox Rep

December 2025

Laboratory of Radiation Biology, Department of Applied Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan.

Targeting ferroptosis, cell death caused by the iron-dependent accumulation of lipid peroxides, and disruption of the redox balance are promising strategies in cancer therapy owing to the physiological characteristics of cancer cells. However, the detection of ferroptosis using imaging remains challenging. We previously reported that redox maps showing the reduction power per unit time of implanted tumor tissues via non-invasive redox imaging using a novel, compact, and portable electron paramagnetic resonance imaging (EPRI) device could be compared with tumor tissue sections.
