There is some doubt upon the correct diagnosis in a third (136 (31.5%)/431) of patients (114 males and 22 females) admitted as having a diagnosis of protracted pneumonia. An algorithm of examination of patients with risk factors was developed for the differential diagnosis of different types of protracted pneumonia, including its destructive forms. The algorithm was used in the X-ray pattern of infiltrative changes unresolving within 2-3 weeks during nonspecific therapy. Hemoptysis was observed in 76 (17.6%). Its causes were bleeding granulations in 58 patients and aspirated bronchial foreign bodies in 36. Major diagnostic difficulties were presented by 18 (13.2%) patients out of the 136 patients in whom pulmonary changes were detectable as round foci with destruction. Differential diagnosis ascertained blocked abscesses (n = 6), tuberculomas with decay (n = 5), infiltrative destructive tuberculosis (n = 3), peripheral cancer with decay (n = 2), and bronchiectasis (n = 4).

Background: Exposures to environmental toxicants and pollutants occur at various points along the life course, with mounting evidence that late-life pollution exposure increases risk for neurological disease, including dementia. Although occupational hazards constitute a primary source of modifiable environmental exposure during the working years, there is little research examining the protracted effects of mid-life occupational exposure on late-life dementia risk.
Method: This study leveraged life course data from the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study (WLS) to evaluate the effects of mid-life occupational hazardous exposures on late-life dementia outcomes.

Objective: This study investigated the role of specialty concussion care on the clinical course of recovery in adolescent patients who initiated care beyond 3 weeks from their injury.
Design: Retrospective analysis of protracted recovery groups was based on the number of days in which a patient presented for care postinjury: early (22-35 days), middle (36-49 days), and late (50+ days).

Tumour-induced osteomalacia (TIO), also known as oncogenic osteomalacia, is a rare paraneoplastic syndrome mediated by the overproduction of phosphaturic hormone fibroblast growth factor 23. TIO is most commonly caused by mesenchymal tumours (PMTs), which are typically small, slow-growing and often undetectable on physical examination and conventional imaging techniques. Patients with TIO typically undergo a protracted period of diagnostic workup and medical treatment due to presentation with nonspecific symptoms and difficulty in localising the culprit tumour.
