The relationship between the number of immature individuals of Tetranychus urticae used to calculate life table parameters (sex ratio, development time, immature survival and the intrinsic rate of increase) and the accuracy of such determinations has been estimated. Additionally, the approach used in this paper, which considers each female offspring as a separate replicate, has allowed statistical comparison of the parameters obtained. At least the first four eggs from 16 females should be followed up to completion of their development to prevent the occurrence significant differences for the selected parameters. However, our results indicate that optimal sample sizes are different for the different life table parameters considered and should adapt to the preset level of accuracy.

The rapid increase in infections caused by the emerging fungal pathogen is of global concern, and understanding its expansion is a priority. The phylogenetic diversity of the yeast is clustered in five major clades, among which clade III is particularly relevant, as most of its strains exhibit resistance to fluconazole, reducing the therapeutic alternatives and provoking outbreaks that are difficult to control. In this study, we have investigated the phylogenetic structure of clade III by analyzing a global collection of 566 genomes.

The prevalence of centenarians, people who lived 100 years and longer, is steadily growing in the last decades. This exceptional longevity is based on multifaceted processes influenced by a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic factors such as sex, (epi-)genetic factors, gut microbiota, cellular metabolism, exposure to oxidative stress, immune status, cardiovascular risk factors, environmental factors, and lifestyle behavior. Epidemiologically, the incidence rate of cardiovascular diseases is reduced in healthy centenarians along with late onset of age-related diseases compared with the general aged population.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the apparent intrinsic clearance (Cl) and fraction unbound in human liver microsomes (f) of 86 marketed central nervous system (CNS) drugs and to predict the in vivo hepatic blood clearance (CL).
Methods: Cl in human liver microsomes (HLM) was determined by substrate depletion, and f was determined by equilibrium dialysis. The relationship between lipophilicity (logP) and unbound intrinsic clearance (Cl) was explored using the Biopharmaceutical Drug Disposition Classification System (BDDCS) and Extended Clearance Classification System (ECCS).

As marine equipment advances from shallow to deep-sea environments, the demand for high-performance antifouling materials continues to increase. The lionfish, a species inhabiting both deep-sea and shallow coral reefs, prevents fouling organism adhesion via its smooth, mucus-covered skin, which contains antimicrobial peptides. Inspired by lionfish skin, this work integrates zwitterionic segments with hydration-based fouling-release properties and the furan oxime ester structure with intrinsic antibacterial activity to develop a silicone-based antifouling coating capable of operating from shallow to deep-sea environments.
