Published: March 2007

Background: Applicants with diabetes mellitus are at higher risk for many of the events covered by critical illness insurance. The relative risk of cardiovascular disease has not been quantified from an insurance perspective.

Methods: A literature search is done to determine the relative risk of cardiovascular disease, followed by an actuarial analysis to estimate the morbidity ratio for newly diagnosed diabetics compared to nondiabetics.

Results: Morbidity ratios are relatively similar in different studies, especially for ages 50 and older. Morbidity ratios are highest for ages 30-39 (300% to 500%), high for ages 40-49 (200% to 400%), and taper to 200% for older ages.

Conclusion: Morbidity ratios would be high in newly diagnosed diabetics who applied for critical illness insurance, ranging from a high of approximately 300% to 500% at ages 30-39 to a low of 200% at older ages.

Knowledge of the natural history of deficiency disorder (CDD) is limited to the results of cross-sectional analysis of largely pediatric cohorts. Assessment of outcomes in adulthood is critical for clinical decision-making and future precision medicine approaches but is challenging because of the diagnostic gap and duration of follow-up that would be required for prospective studies. We aimed to delineate the natural history retrospectively from adulthood.

Importance: The pathophysiology of ADHD is complicated by high rates of psychiatric comorbidities, thus delineating unique versus shared functional brain perturbations is critical in elucidating illness pathophysiology.

Objective: To investigate resting-state fMRI (rsfMRI)-complexity alterations among children with ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), respectively, and comorbid ADHD, ODD, and OCD, within the cool and hot executive function (EF) networks.

Design: We leveraged baseline data (wave 0) from the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study.

Caring for critically ill children presents unique challenges due to their rapid deterioration and the need for immediate, complex interventions. The assessment, diagnosis and treatment of deteriorating paediatric patients require a comprehensive and holistic, systematic approach. However, the dynamic nature of critical illness and the need for stabilisation can often lead to missed opportunities for assessment and intervention.

This is a case of a young, 20-year-old, male Navy recruit who was admitted to our healthcare facility with intermittent atypical chest pain and limiting exertional symptoms and was diagnosed with myocardial bridging (MB) as the most likely etiology of his chest after the complete cardiac workup, leading to his career limitations due to potential risks. Our patient presented with atypical chest pain and limiting exertional symptoms. Chest pain was non-radiating.

Background: Patients who are informed about the causes, pathophysiology, treatment and prevention of a disease are better able to participate in treatment procedures in the event of illness. Artificial intelligence (AI), which has gained popularity in recent years, is defined as the study of algorithms that provide machines with the ability to reason and perform cognitive functions, including object and word recognition, problem solving and decision making. This study aimed to examine the readability, reliability and quality of responses to frequently asked keywords about low back pain (LBP) given by three different AI-based chatbots (ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini), which are popular applications in online information presentation today.
