Normal heart function depends on complex regulation by the brain, and abnormalities in the brain‒heart axis affect various diseases, such as myocardial infarction and anxiety disorders. However, systematic tracking of the brain regions associated with the input and output of the heart is lacking. In this study, we injected retrograde transsynaptic pseudorabies virus (PRV) and anterograde transsynaptic herpes simplex virus (HSV) into the left ventricular wall of mice to identify the whole-brain regions associated with the input to and output from the heart.

BackgroundIdentifying biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is critical for early diagnosis and AD risk assessment.ObjectiveWe examined the hypothesis that the plasma amyloid-β 42 and 40 (Aβ) ratio has a curvilinear relationship with age among individuals who are at higher genetic risk for AD.MethodsThis study investigated the relationship between plasma amyloid-β 42 and 40 (Aβ) ratio and age in 315 men and women Veterans, including those at genetic risk for AD.

Objectives: To determine if more strict state-level felony disenfranchisement laws, which are a form of structural racism, are associated with worse self-rated health, and if this association is stronger for Black women compared to white women.
Methods: Using Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) 2021, American Community Survey 2017-2021, and State Felony Disenfranchisement Laws in 2020 from the "Locked Out Report" by the Sentencing Project, we fit hierarchical linear models to estimate changes in self-rated health with state felony disenfranchisement laws for 185,833 Black and white women, stratified by race, in 49 states (excluding Florida).
Results: We found a significant positive association between more restrictive disenfranchisement and worse self-rated health for Black women ( = 0.

Background: Social participation (SP) has been associated with cognitive benefits among older adults; however, little is known about SP patterns and their relationships with cognitive function in cognitively impaired populations. This study aimed to identify SP patterns among cognitively impaired older individuals and evaluate their associations with subsequent cognitive function, specifically mental intactness and episodic memory.
Methods: Data were drawn from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), including 5,673 individuals aged 60 years and older with cognitive impairment from 2015 to 2018.

Background: Ethical climate, observance of patients' privacy and nurses' spiritual well-being are of great importance in intensive care units (ICU). In addition, it is essential to identify spiritual and ethical predictors of patients' privacy. Thus, this study aimed to determine the predictive effects of ethical climate and nurses' spiritual well-being on patients' privacy in ICU.
