Beside basic physical notions such as ionizing radiation, beam production and beam characteristics, this chapter will focus on two major principles that should always be considered in a radiosurgery procedure: conformity and selectivity. Those parameters are influenced by different physical beam properties, by the type of beam delivery device and by the way the dose is delivered. Conformity and selectivity should be evaluated for each treatment with the help of some specific indices, i.e. target volume ratio and normal volume ratio based on the dose-volume histograms.

Inspired by the properties of natural chitin, the present work provides the first solid foundation for growing conformal ultrathin antibacterial films of organic chitin through a solvent-free molecular layer deposition (MLD) process. This work establishes the initial groundwork for growing biomimetic hybrid cuticles by combining sugar-type molecules with vapor-phase metal-organic precursors, which we term metallochitins or, more generally, metallosaccharides. The MLD process, featuring mild temperatures and solvent-free conditions, provides exceptional conformality and thickness precision, ensuring highly conformal coatings on diverse high aspect ratio substrates.

Background: Normal brain aging is associated with dopamine decline, which has been linked to age-related cognitive decline. Factors underlying individual differences in dopamine integrity at older ages remain, however, unclear. Here we aimed at investigating: (i) whether inflammation is associated with levels and 5-year changes of in vivo dopamine D2-receptor (DRD2) availability, (ii) if DRD2-inflammation associations differ between men and women, and (iii) whether inflammation and cerebral small-vessel disease (white-matter lesions) serve as two independent predictors of DRD2 availability.

A new Rhodamine functionalised Schiff Base sensor 3',6'-bis(diethylamino)-2-((4-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)spiro[isoindoline-1,9'-xanthen]-3-one (SBRB1) was designed and synthesized. The recognition ability of sensor SBRB1 towards Hg was studied by using UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The fluorescence results showed that the sensor SBRB1 has specific selectivity as well as sensitivity towards Hg among other competitive metal ions as the fluorescence intensity at 479 nm quenched only in the presence of Hg.

G-quadruplex (G4) structure is a nucleic acid secondary structure formed by guanine-rich sequences, playing essential roles in various biological processes such as gene regulation and environmental stress adaptation. Although prokaryotes growing at high temperatures have higher GC contents, the pattern of G4 structure associated with GC content variation in thermal adaptation remains elusive. This study analyzed 681 bacterial genomes to explore the role of G4 structures in thermal adaptation.
