Structure and Fungicidal Activity of Secondary Metabolites Isolated from b-3.

J Fungi (Basel)

October 2024

State Key Laboratory of Southwestern Chinese Medicine Resource, School of Pharmacy, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu 611137, China.

Two new harziane diterpenes (-), five undescribed cyclonerane sesquiterpenes (-), and three known compounds, 11-cycloneren-3, 7, 10-triol (), harziandione (), and dehydroacetic acid (), were isolated from b-3. Their structures were elucidated via comprehensive inspection of spectral evidence in HRESIMS and 1D and 2D NMR, and the absolute configuration of - was confirmed by NMR, ECD calculation, as well as Mosher's method. In vitro fungicidal activity showed that some compounds showed great inhibitory activity against pathogenic fungi, including , , , and , among which compound showed 100% inhibition of and .

Botrytis cinerea, which causes postharvest gray mold, is a primary pathogen that limits grape shelf-life and consumption and causes substantial yield loss worldwide. The combined use of biocontrol agents and food additives has attracted increasing interest. The effects of combined treatment with the endophyte Bacillus subtilis K1 and sodium dehydroacetate (SD) on the occurrence of gray mold and maintenance of grape fruit quality were studied.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on a new probe called DPD, designed for detecting copper (Cu) ions in methanol, utilizing specific chemical components and showing selective binding through UV-Vis measurements.
  • Binding studies confirmed a 2:1 stoichiometry ratio and an impressive detection limit of 1.38×10 M for Cu ions.
  • The DPD probe also demonstrated its ability to detect SCN ions with a low limit of detection and showed practical application by analyzing real water and blood samples, outperforming existing sensors in selectivity and sensitivity.

Article Synopsis
  • - A novel magnetic nanomaterial, C18-PS-DVB-FeO, was created using FeO as the core and PS-DVB as the shell, providing excellent chemical stability and magnetic properties for effective extraction in environmental applications.
  • - A magnetic dispersive solid phase extraction (Mag-dSPE) method was developed to analyze food additives in river water, using C18-PS-DVB-FeO as an adsorbent combined with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for precise detection.
  • - The method successfully detected 11 food additives with limits of detection between 0.6-3.1 μg/L and showed high recovery rates, while the nanomaterial maintained extraction efficiency after five reuse

The Expert Panel for Cosmetic Ingredient Safety (Panel) first published a safety assessment of Sodium Dehydroacetate and Dehydroacetic Acid in 1985. The Panel previously concluded that Sodium Dehydroacetate and Dehydroacetic Acid are safe as used in the present practices of use and concentration, as stated in that report. Upon re-review in 2003, the Panel reaffirmed the original conclusion, as published in 2006.
