Background: With increasing patient care responsibilities, administrative work and education demands, physicians may find it challenging to provide high-quality and engaging clinical education to third-year medical students on clerkships. Fourth-year students in the role of near-peer teachers can help fill this role, but they often also have competing responsibilities.
Approach: A 4-week Internal Medicine Student Chief (Student Chief) elective was created, designed such that fourth-year students would apply for dedicated time to serve as student leaders, coaches and educators for the third-year students on the Internal Medicine clerkship.
In recent decades, biodiversity loss has greatly impacted planetary and human health. Children are at additional risk of adverse effects due to unique biological, developmental, and behavioral factors, as well as their longer exposure to an altered planet as a function of their young age. These effects are heightened for children living in vulnerable socioeconomic conditions.

Inhibition of xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) was shown to ameliorate the stroke susceptibility in the stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHRSP), suggesting hyperuricemia had a pathological role in this rat model. In this study, we thus aimed to explore mechanisms inducing hyperuricemia in SHRSP. XOR is known to have two forms, xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) as the prototype and xanthine oxidase (XO) as the converted form through cleavage of a peptide bond or through formation of disulfide bonds in the enzyme.

Background And Objective: Performing lipid testing after statin initiation is recommended to monitor response. Inadequate response may indicate non-adherence, which is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events and increased costs. Group-based trajectory modeling is an approach to establish probabilistic developmental trajectories of adherence, differentiating individuals by their distinct longitudinal medication-taking behaviors.
