The triazine derived ligand reacts with one equivalent of Co(II) salts to give complexes whose architecture depends on the solvent employed: the [2 x 2]-grid like tetranuclear complex and the pincer-like mononuclear complex, obtained respectively by crystallization from nitromethane and from acetonitrile may be interconverted reversibly, the grid-pincer conversion being markedly accelerated by adding an amine.

The valorization of native lignin to functionalized aromatic compounds under visible light is appealing yet challenging. In this communication, colloidal mercaptoalkanoic acid capped ultrathin ZnInS (ZIS) microbelts was successfully fabricated, which was used as a superior catalyst for depolymerization of native lignin in birch woodmeal under visible light, with an optimum yield of 28.8 wt % to functionalized aromatic monomers achieved in 8 h.

Pertinent to cryopreservation as well as energy storage and batteries, nonaqueous electrolytes and their mixtures with water were investigated. In particular, specific ion-induced effects on the modulation of a poly(-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) brush were investigated in various dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)-water solvent mixtures. Spectroscopic ellipsometry and neutron reflectometry were employed to probe changes in brush swelling and structure, respectively.

Proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET), an essential process in nature with a well-known example of photosynthesis, has recently been employed in metal complexes to improve the energy conversion efficiency; however, a profound understanding of the mechanism of PCET in metal complexes is still lacking. In this study, we synthesized cyclometalated Ir complexes strategically designed to exploit the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) of the ancillary ligand and studied their photoinduced PCET in both aprotic and protic solvent environments using femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT calculations. The data reveal solvent-modulated PCET, where charge transfer follows proton transfer in an aprotic solvent and the temporal order of charge transfer and proton transfer is reversed in a protic solvent.

Lispro insulin (LPI), a widely used insulin analog, is produced on tons per year scale. Linear gradient reversed phase chromatography (RPC) is used in the production to separate LPI from two impurities, which differ from LPI by a single amino acid residue. A chromatography model for the ternary separation in this RPC process is unavailable from the literature.

A novel 2D coordination polymer consisting of ferromagnetic Ni(ii) chains with alternating double EO-azide bridges and (EO-azide)bis(carboxylate) triple bridges exhibits solvent-modulated metamagnetism, and the reversible dehydration/hydration processes are accompanied by significant changes in critical temperature, critical field and hysteresis.
