Objective: The present study tried to find out the effects of coriaria lactone (CL) on the sodium currents of the rat hippocampal neurons and their significance.
Methods: The sodium currents of the acutely isolated Sprague-Dawley rat hippocampal neurons were recorded by employing the patch-clamp technique in the whole-cell voltage-clamp mode. The effects of CL on the peak currents in the neuron membrane were assessed and analyzed.
Results: Both 0.1 mg/mL and 0.2 mg/mL CL increased the maximal peak density of sodium currents significantly (17.32%+/-8.52% vs 37.98%+/-4.91%). The effect of 0.2 mg/mL CL (P < 0.05) was more significant than that of 0.1 mg/mL CL (P > 0.05), when compared with the control (3.16%+/-0.65%).
Conclusion: CL can increase the amplitudes of the voltage-dependent sodium currents in the acutely isolated hippocampal neurons. This effect may contribute to the enhanced excitability of hippocampal neurons and play a role in the epileptogenetic process of CL.

Voltage-gated potassium channels (VGKCs) comprise the largest and most complex families of ion channels. Approximately 70 genes encode VGKC alpha subunits, which assemble into functional tetrameric channel complexes. These subunits can also combine to form heteromeric channels, significantly expanding the potential diversity of VGKCs.

The ethical issues surrounding sacrifice methods in animal experimentation have garnered increasing attention, making immobilization and sedation an integral part of the sacrifice process for experimental animals. Currently, internationally recognized general sacrifice methods for commonly used laboratory animals have been established, but there remains significant controversy over the sacrifice methods for turtles. To explore the effectiveness of various immobilization methods and their impact on stress-related indicators in turtles, this study used red-eared sliders (Trachemys scripta elegans) as subjects.

The continuous exposure of chemical pesticides in agriculture, their contamination in soil and water pose serious threat to the environment. Current study used an approach to evaluate various pesticides like Hexaconazole, Mancozeb, Pretilachlor, Organophosphate and λ-cyhalothrin degradation capability of esterase. The enzyme was isolated from Salinicoccus roseus.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common cause of chronic cough, linked to dysregulated airway C- and Aδ-fibres through inflammatory mediators. Despite the limited efficacy of current antitussive therapies, recent studies show that the Na1.7 inhibitor can block cough in naïve guinea pigs.

Background: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is an adverse renal event that occurs following the administration of contrast media for diagnostic procedures or therapeutic angiographic intervention. Nevertheless, there is currently no efficacious and safe agents for the treatment of CIN, except for hydration. We aimed to conduct a meta-analysis to verify the potential nephroprotective role of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) in the prevention of CIN.
