Despite their high prevalence, the anxiety disorders are underdiagnosed and undertreated. Benzodiazepines, once the first line of treatment, have been superceded by SSRIs as the treatment of choice. Preclinical studies, however, suggest that CRF antagonists and antagonists of nicotinic,glutamate,5-HT1A,and NK-1 receptors may have potential anxiolytic action. Preliminary data suggest that tiagabine, the only available SGRI, may also be beneficial in the anxiety disorders. Further research on these novel agents in anxiety disorders is needed.

Background And Aim: (CM) and (AM) are medicinal mushrooms with potential applications in the treatment of mood disorders, including depression and anxiety. While research suggests that both CM and AM possess anti-inflammatory properties and hold potential for treating depression when administered separately, there is limited knowledge about their efficacy when combined in a formula, as well as the underlying mechanism involving the modulation of microglia.
Experimental Procedure: Rats received oral administrations of the low-dose formulation, medium-dose formulation, and high-dose formulation over 28 consecutive days as part of the UCMS protocols.

The GABA type A receptor (GABAR) belongs to the family of pentameric ligand-gated ion channels and plays a key role in inhibition in adult mammalian brains. Dysfunction of this macromolecule may lead to epilepsy, anxiety disorders, autism, depression, and schizophrenia. GABAR is also a target for multiple physiologically and clinically relevant modulators, such as benzodiazepines (BDZs), general anesthetics, and neurosteroids.
