[reaction: see text] A novel cyclic tri-beta-peptide having terpyridine (tpy) metal ligands was synthesized to investigate its assembly formation and metal complexation. Microscopic observation revealed that this cyclic peptide formed a rod-shaped molecular assembly. The assembly was able to bind Cu(II) because the tpy ligands covered the surface of the crystal, keeping the tpy plane parallel to the ring plane of the cyclic tri-beta-peptide.

Resolving the molecular basis of a Mendelian condition remains challenging owing to the diverse mechanisms by which genetic variants cause disease. To address this, we developed a synchronized long-read genome, methylome, epigenome and transcriptome sequencing approach, which enables accurate single-nucleotide, insertion-deletion and structural variant calling and diploid de novo genome assembly. This permits the simultaneous elucidation of haplotype-resolved CpG methylation, chromatin accessibility and full-length transcript information in a single long-read sequencing run.

Cannabidiol (CBD), a specialized metabolite (phytocannabinoid) abundant in Cannabis sativa, is attracting increasing attention for its alleged health-promoting properties. The present study aimed to investigate the pharmacokinetics of CBD and its primary metabolite, 7-hydroxy-cannabidiol (7-OH-CBD), following a single oral dose of a CBD-rich Cannabis sativa extract, equivalent to 70 mg CBD, in healthy male (n=5) and female (n=6) participants. Using a randomized crossover design, the study evaluated the impact of a standardized high-fat meal compared to fasting on the oral bioavailability of CBD.

The environmental pollutant cadmium (Cd) poses a threat to human health through consumption of contaminated foodstuffs culminating in chronic nephrotoxicity. Mitochondrial dysfunction and excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) are key to Cd cellular toxicity. Cd-lipid interactions have been less considered.

The expansion of aquaculture areas has encroached upon vast areas of coastal wetlands and introduced excessive nitrogen inputs, disrupting microbial communities and contributing to various environmental issues. However, investigations on how aquaculture affects microbial communities and nitrogen metabolism mechanisms in coastal tidal flats remain scarce. Hence, we explored the composition, diversity, and assembly processes of nitrogen-cycling (N-cycling) microbial communities in tidal flats in Jiangsu using metagenomic assembly methods.

Whole genome sequencing revealed high occurrence of antimicrobial resistance genes in bacteria isolated from poultry manure.

Department of Botany, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu, University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, 221005, India. Electronic address:

Global demand for food has driven expansion and intensification of livestock production, particularly in developing nations where antibiotic use is often routine. Waste from poultry production, including manure, is commonly utilized as fertilizers in agroecosystems, risking environmental contamination with potentially zoonotic bacteria and antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs). Here, 33 bacterial isolates were recovered from broiler (n=17) and layer (n=16) chicken manure by aerobic culture using Luria Bertani agar.
