Haemodynamic changes related to activation of the human visual cortex were studied using optical imaging. The change in oxyhaemoglobin concentration in the visual cortex was estimated using a perturbation Monte Carlo (pMC) method. Comparison to a topographic map obtained using the modified Beer-Lambert law and interpolation is given.

The main aim of this study is to achieve the numerical solution for the Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible, non-turbulent, and subsonic fluid flows with some Gaussian physical uncertainties. The higher-order stochastic finite volume method (SFVM), implemented according to the iterative generalized stochastic perturbation technique and the Monte Carlo scheme, are engaged for this purpose. It is implemented with the aid of the polynomial bases for the pressure-velocity-temperature (PVT) solutions, for which the weighted least squares method (WLSM) algorithm is applicable.

We present a generalization of the phaseless auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo (AFQMC) method to cavity quantum-electrodynamical (QED) matter systems. The method can be formulated in both the Coulomb and the dipole gauge. We verify its accuracy by benchmarking calculations on a set of small molecules against full configuration interaction and state-of-the-art QED coupled cluster (QED-CCSD) calculations.

A new method to perform complete active space second-order perturbation theory on top of large active spaces optimized with full configuration quantum Monte Carlo is presented. Computing the three- and Fock-contracted four-particle density matrix from imaginary-time-averaged wave functions is found to resolve fermionic positivity violations and to ensure numerical stability. The protocol is applied to [NiFe]-hydrogenase, [CuO]-oxidase and Fe-porphyrin model systems up to 26 electrons in 27 orbitals and benchmarked against DMRG-CASPT2.

Proliferating animal cells maintain a stable size distribution over generations despite fluctuations in cell growth and division size. Previously, we showed that cell size control involves both cell size checkpoints, which delay cell cycle progression in small cells, and size-dependent regulation of mass accumulation rates (Ginzberg et al., 2018).

Purpose: The self-shielding radiosurgery system ZAP-X consists of a 3 MV linear accelerator and eight round collimators. For this system, it is a common practice to perform the reference dosimetry using the largest 25 mm diameter collimator at a source-to-axis distance (SAD) of 45 cm with the PTW Semiflex3D chamber placed at a measurement depth of 7 mm in water. Existing dosimetry protocols do not provide correction for these measurement conditions.
