LC-ESI-MS/MS is a preferred method for detecting and identifying metabolites, including those that are unpredictable from the genome, especially in basal metazoans like Cnidaria, which diverged earlier than bilaterians and whose metabolism is poorly understood. However, the unexpected appearance of a "ghost peak" for dopamine, which exhibited the same m/z value and MS/MS product ion spectrum during an analysis of Nematostella vectensis, a model cnidarian, complicated its accurate identification. Understanding the mechanism by which "ghost peaks" appear is crucial to accurately identify the monoamine repertoire in early animals so as to avoid misassignments.

Concerning the entrance of oil into the Persian Gulf due to the presence of oil fields in this ecosystem, a wide investigation was carried out in 2017 to evaluate the hydrocarbons source identification and chemical fingerprinting. To this end, surface sediments were collected from the Persian Gulf. In the laboratory, compounds (n-alkanes, PAHs, hopane and sterane) were then extracted with a Soxhlet system and two steps of chromatographic columns and analyzed using a GC-MS instrument.

Landslide susceptibility map (LSM) plays an important role in providing the knowledge of slopes prone to future landslides. However, the applicability of LSM is often hindered due to high cost of data collection especially in mountainous region such as Himalayas. Therefore, this study proposes transfer learning approach (TL) to improve the performance of LSM by transferring the information from the data rich region (source) to data scare region (target).

We developed spatially detailed source-impact estimates of population health burden measures of air pollution for the United States and Canada by quantifying sources-receptor relationships using the benefit-per-ton (BPT) metric. We calculated BPTs as the valuations of premature mortality counts due to fine particulate matter (PM; particulate matter ≤2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter) exposure resulting from emissions of one ton of a given pollutant.

Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) pollution poses a serious threat to public health and the environment because of its respiratory and neurological effects, carcinogenic properties, and adverse effects on air quality. BTEX exposure is a matter of grave concern in India owing to the growing vehicular and development activities, necessitating the assessment of atmospheric concentrations and their spatial variation. This paper presents a comprehensive assessment of ambient concentrations and spatiotemporal variations of BTEX in India.
