Insights into Human Middle Ear Implants: Uncovered Bistability.

Materials (Basel)

November 2024

Department of Applied Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Lublin University of Technology, Nadbystrzycka 36, 20-618 Lublin, Poland.

This study delves into the intricate mechanics of human middle ear implants by examining a lumped parameter model with five degrees of freedom to estimate sound transfer. The ASTM standard, recognized globally as a benchmark, served as a reference for analysis, ensuring test accuracy and providing a comprehensive evaluation framework. To assess the implant's usability, numerical simulations were conducted and compared against both the ASTM standard and the experimental results obtained from temporal bone studies.

A Rolling Soft Robot Driven by Local Snap-Through Buckling.

Soft Robot

December 2024

College of Physics and Electronic Information Engineering, Minjiang University, Fuzhou, China.

Previous rolling soft robots have difficulty in balancing the locomotion speed with energy efficiency and have limited terrain adaptability. This work proposes a rolling soft robot driven by local snap-through buckling, which employs the fast response and configuration maintenance of the bistable structure to enhance the locomotion performance of the soft robot. A theory based on bifurcation and the energy principle is established to analyze the rolling mechanism.

This study estimates the performance of a piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) with rotatable external magnets from the viewpoint of global dynamics. According to static analysis of the PEH dynamic system, the monostable and bistable potential wells are configured under different values of the inclined angle of the external magnets. In the monostable case, the method of multiple scales is applied for the analysis of periodic responses, while the extended averaging method and the Melnikov method are utilized to analyze the periodic and chaotic responses in the bistable case.

In this manuscript, we investigate the memristor-based implementation of neuronal ion channels in a mathematical model and an experimental circuit for a neuronal oscillator. We used a FitzHugh-Nagumo equation system describing neuronal excitability. Non-linearities introduced by the voltage-gated ion channels were modeled using memristive devices.
