For the first time we have discovered drastic photoinduced effects in the transparency for the pyrrole films. Photoinduced investigations of transparency were performed for the polypyrroles with different number of the pyrrole rings. We have established a considerable increase of the transparency from 70-75% up to 82-84% for the wavelengths of the probing lasers operating within the 530-1040 nm spectral range. The photoexcitation was performed by nanosecond pulsed polarized Nd-YAG laser generating at 1.34 microm. The phototransparent changes are completely reversible and disappear after switching off the laser treatment. The typical relaxation time for the photoinduced transparency is equal to about 10-20 micros and the changes of the transparency are strictly related with the values of state dipole moments of the polypyrroles. As a possible mechanism for explanation of the observed dependences one can consider existence of the charged trapping levels intra the forbidden energy gaps which effectively interact with the electric strength of the external polarized optical field and state dipole moments of the particular polymers.

Porphyrins have emerged as highly effective photosensitizers in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT) because of their high singlet oxygen generation efficiency. However, most porphyrin derivatives do not have adequate water solubility and cell membrane permeability suitable for use in PDT. In addition, they frequently suffer from low durability under photoirradiation.

UV-Mediated Facile Fabrication of a Robust, Fully Renewable and Controllably Biodegradable Poly(lactic acid)-Based Covalent Adaptable Network.

ACS Macro Lett

September 2024

The Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Biological Colloids, Ministry of Education, School of Chemical and Material Engineering, Jiangnan University, 1800 Lihu Road, Wuxi 214122, China.

A robust and fully biobased covalent adaptable network (CAN) that allows recyclability, biocompatibility, and controlled biodegradability is reported. The CAN was fabricated through a simple photo-cross-linking method, wherein low-molecular-weight poly(lactic acid) (∼3 kDa) was modified with end 1,2-dithiolane rings through a one-step Steglich esterification reaction with thioctic acid (TA). These incorporated 1,2-dithiolane rings undergo photoinduced ring-opening polymerization, thus enabling the cross-linking of poly(lactic acid) with abundant dynamic disulfide bonds.

In this study, 4-sulfo-1,8-naphthalimide calixarene of derivatives were prepared (3 and 4) then transparent biofilms of the Ag salts of these compounds were formed in the presence of hyaluronic acid (HA), and antimicrobial properties were investigated. In chemosensor studies, the sensing ability behavior of 3 and 4 towards some cations and anions was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. It was observed that the prepared chemosensors show selectivity towards Hg(II) and Cr(VI).

Three-dimensional (3D) porous carbon materials have great potential for fabricating flexible tunable broadband absorbers owing to their high electrical conductivity, strong dielectric loss, and unique microstructure. Herein, we introduce an innovative method for synthesizing 3D porous graphene that incorporates advanced tuning and encapsulation processes to augment its functional efficacy. Through the modulation of both thermal and nonthermal interactions between a femtosecond (fs) laser and a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film, we have synergistically fine-tuned the surface morphology and lattice properties of 3D porous graphene.

Organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells have experienced significant development in the last decades after the introduction of nonfullerene acceptor molecules with top power conversion efficiencies reported over 19% and considerable versatility, for example, with application in transparent/semitransparent and flexible photovoltaics. Yet, the optimization of the operational stability continues to be a challenge. This study presents a comprehensive investigation of the use of a conjugated polyelectrolyte polymer (CPE-Na) as a hole layer (HTL) to improve the performance and longevity of OPV cells.
