Effects of rapid maxillary expansion on auditory thresholds and middle ear functioning.

Codas

January 2025

Instituto de Psicologia, Serviço Social, Saúde e Comunicação Humana, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS - Porto Alegre (RS), Brasil.

Purpose: To ascertain whether Rapid Maxillary Expansion (RME) elicits effects on the functioning of the middle ear and air-bone gaps in children and adolescents.

Methods: Single-arm clinical trial, with data collection at four time points: before initiating Rapid Maxillary Expansion (RME) (T0), upon completion of RME (T1), three months post-RME completion (T2), and six months post-RME procedure (T3). The audiological assessment, conducted at all four time points, comprised otoscopy, pure tone and speech audiometry, tympanometry, and acoustic reflex investigation.

Purpose: Trophoblast cell-surface antigen 2 (Trop2) is overexpressed in various solid tumors and contributes to tumor progression, while its expression remains low in normal tissues. Trop2-targeting antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), sacituzumab govitecan-hziy (Trodelvy), has shown efficacy in targeting this antigen. Leveraging the enhanced specificity of ADCs, we conducted the first immunoPET imaging study of Trop2 expression in gastric cancer (GC) and triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) models using Zr-labeled Trodelvy ([Zr]Zr-DFO-Trodelvy).

Nanomaterials and clinical SERS technology: broad applications in disease diagnosis.

J Mater Chem B

January 2025

Ningbo Key Laboratory of Biomedical Imaging Probe Materials and Technology, Laboratory of Advanced Theranostic Materials and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Key Laboratory of Magnetic Materials and Devices, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ningbo 315201, China.

The critical need for rapid cancer diagnosis and related illnesses is growing alongside the current healthcare challenges, unfavorable prognosis, and constraints in diagnostic timing. As a result, emphasis on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) diagnostic methods, including both label-free and labelled approaches, holds significant promise in fields such as analytical chemistry, biomedical science, and physics, due to the user-friendly nature of SERS. Over time, the SERS detection sensitivity and specificity with nanostructured materials for SERS applications (NMs-SERS) in different media have been remarkable.

Objective: An accurate fine-needle aspiration (FNA) diagnosis of adrenal lesions may be challenging. This study was to investigate roles of imaging guidance, rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) and additional tissue sampling in FNA diagnosis of adrenal lesions.

Methods: Adrenal FNA cases were retrieved from pathology archive.

Citrate in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease: biomarker or therapeutic agent?

Curr Opin Nephrol Hypertens

March 2025

Nephrology Division, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), São Paulo, Brazil.

Purpose Of Review: This review highlights the latest findings regarding hypocitraturia in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), from both experimental and clinical studies, exploring the underlying pathophysiology and potential therapeutic approach.

Recent Findings: Experimental studies have shown that the lodging of microcrystals in the tubules can trigger cyst formation and growth in polycystic kidney disease (PKD). ADPKD patients are prone to developing hypocitraturia in early stages, which could predispose to calcium microcrystal formation.
