Due to the presence of the pyridyl directing group, -aryl-2-aminopyridines can quickly form stable complexes with metals, leading to cyclization and functionalization reactions. A large number of N-heterocycles and nitrogen-based molecules can be easily constructed this direct and atom-economical cross-coupling strategy. In this review, we have highlighted the transformations of -aryl-2-aminopyridines in the presence of various transition metal catalysts, such as palladium, rhodium, iridium, ruthenium, cobalt and copper.

The use of visible light to drive chemical transformations has a history spanning over a century. However, the development of photo-redox catalysts to efficiently harness light energy is a more recent advancement, evolving over the past two decades. While ruthenium and iridium-based photocatalysts dominate due to their photostability, long excited-state lifetimes, and high redox potentials, concerns about sustainability and cost have shifted attention to first-row transition metals.

The field of sustainable heterogeneous catalysis is evolving rapidly, with a strong emphasis on developing catalysts that enhance efficiency. Among various heterogeneous photocatalysts, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained significant attention for their exceptional performance in photocatalytic reactions. In this context, contrary to the conventional homogeneous iridium or ruthenium-based photocatalysts, which face significant challenges in terms of availability, cost, scalability, and recyclability, a new Ba/Ti MOF (ACM-4) is developed as a heterogeneous catalyst that can mimic/outperform the conventional photocatalysts, offering a more sustainable solution for efficient chemical processes.

Formic acid (HCOOH) is a promising source of hydrogen energy that can be used to produce hydrogen in a more economical and ecological way. Formic acid is a simple carboxylic acid with a high hydrogen concentration and is generally stable, making it useful as a hydrogen transporter. Catalytic dehydrogenation is usually used to extract hydrogen from formic acid; this process releases hydrogen gas and yields carbon dioxide as a byproduct.
