[reaction: see text] Naphthalene photo-catalyzes formation of cyclohexadiene-indole cycloadducts in a wavelength-dependent process. Steady-state irradiation and time-resolved fluorescence studies agree well with NP-InH ground-state charge transfer (CT) complexes as the key species responsible for the photo-catalyzed process.

Electrochemical activation of small molecules plays an essential role in sustainable electrosynthesis, environmental technologies, energy storage and conversion. The dynamic structural changes of catalysts during the course of electrochemical reactions pose challenges in the study of reaction kinetics and the design of potent catalysts. This short review aims to provide a balanced view of restructuring of electrocatalysts, including its fundamental thermodynamic origins and how these compare to those in thermal and photocatalysis, and highlighting both the positive and negative impacts of restructuring on the electrocatalyst performance.

Intensified host-guest electronic interplay within stable metal-organic cages (MOCs) presents great opportunities for applications in stimuli response and photocatalysis. Zr-MOCs represent a type of robust discrete hosts for such a design, but their host-guest chemistry in solution is hampered by the limited solubility. Here, by using pyridinium-derived cationic ligands with tetrakis(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)borate (BAr) as solubilizing counteranions, we report the preparation of soluble Zr-MOCs of different shapes (1-4) that are otherwise inaccessible through a conventional method.

This study reports on the facile development of star-shaped gold nanoparticles via seed-mediated growth protocol. Gold nanostars (AuNSTs) demonstrated average particle size of 48 nm using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Chemical composition of AuNSTs was verifired using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) mapping.

Globally, the companies that make commercial use of bamboo culms produce different kinds of solid waste rich in lignocellulosic biomass, which in some cases is not used and is discarded in landfills or incinerated in the open air; losing the possibility of recovering them and using them in other productive sectors. The research objective were to produce a biochar from Guadua agustifolia  Kunth sawdust, evaluate its potential environmental and agricultural use, obtain a biochar/TiO  composite to inactivate Escherichia coli and use the biochar as a soil conditioner in medicinal plants producing phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Biochar composite (produced at 300 °C for 1 h) involved TiO at 450 °C for 1 h for inactivation of E.
