The rapid and reliable diagnosis of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is essential for preventing the spread of MRSA infections and guiding therapeutic strategies. However, there is still a huge challenge in further simplifying MRSA detection procedures and improving detection selectivity to reduce false-positive results. In this study, we developed a derivative CRISPR-associated protein 9/CRISPR-derived RNA Linked Immunological Assay (dCLISA) for the sensitive and specific detection of MRSA.

Since cefixime and tellurite are known to inhibit most bacteria belonging to Enterobacterales, we found that addition of tellurite inhibited E. albertii growth in Luria Bertani broth but not in tryptic soy broth (TSB), and addition of phosphate and soy peptone enhanced E. albertii growth in TSB in presence of tellurite.

Two versatile yet simple methods, colorimetric and spectrofluorimetric, were utilized for the quantitation of nonchromophore neomycin using silver nanoparticles modified with fluorescein. Fluorescein was excited at 485 nm (emission at 515 nm); when it is deposited on the surface of silver nanoparticles, its fluorescence intensity at 515 nm is quenched. Neomycin restores the fluorescence level at 515 nm by displacing fluorescein from nanoparticle binding sites.

Widespread screening is crucial for the early diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, the leading cause of visual impairment and blindness. The development of portable technologies, such as smartphone-based ophthalmoscopes, able to image the optical nerve head, represents a resource for large-scale glaucoma screening. Indeed, they consist of an optical device attached to a common smartphone, making the overall device cheap and easy to use.

To facilitate on-site detection by nonspecialists, there is a demand for the development of portable "sample-to-answer" devices capable of executing all procedures in an automated or easy-to-operate manner. Here, we developed an automated detection device that integrated a magnetofluidic manipulation system and a signal acquisition system. Both systems were controllable via a smartphone.
