Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a heterogeneous group of heart muscle disorders that affects millions, with an incidence from 1 in 500 to 1 in 200. Factors such as genetics, age, gender, comorbidities, and environmental factors may contribute to the course of this disease. Diagnosis of HCM has improved significantly in the past few decades from simple echocardiographic evaluations to a more complex, multimodal approach embracing advanced imaging, genetic, and biomarker studies.

Due to their involvement in pathogen-mediated immune responses, the hypervariable genes of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) have become a paradigm for investigating the evolution and maintenance of genetic (adaptive) diversity, contextually providing insight into the viability of wild populations, which is meaningful for conservation. Here, we provide the first preliminary characterization of MHC polymorphism and evolution in trouts from Albania, a known hotspot of Salmonid diversity harboring ecologically and phylogenetically distinct native (threatened) taxa. Overall, 36 trout-including Lake Ohrid-endemic and , and both riverine and lacustrine native brown trout (the complex) from the Drin-Skadar drainage-were genotyped at the MHC- locus through next-generation amplicon sequencing.

Within Polynoidae, a diverse aphroditiform family, the subfamily Macellicephalinae comprises anchialine cave-dwelling and deep-sea scaleworms. In this study, Lepidonotopodinae is synonymized with Macellicephalinae, and the tribe Lepidonotopodini is applied to a well-supported clade inhabiting deep-sea chemosynthetic-based ecosystems. Newly sequenced "genome skimming" data for 30 deep-sea polynoids and the comparatively shallow living is used to bioinformatically assemble their mitogenomes.
