Accurate in silico models for predicting aqueous solubility are needed in drug design and discovery and many other areas of chemical research. We present a statistical modeling of aqueous solubility based on measured data, using a Gaussian Process nonlinear regression model (GPsol). We compare our results with those of 14 scientific studies and 6 commercial tools. This shows that the developed model achieves much higher accuracy than available commercial tools for the prediction of solubility of electrolytes. On top of the high accuracy, the proposed machine learning model also provides error bars for each individual prediction.

The design and study of pulsed eddy current sensors for detecting surface defects in small-diameter rods are highly significant. Accurate detection and identification of surface defects in small-diameter rods may be attained by the ongoing optimization of sensor design and enhancement of detection technologies. This article presents the construction of a non-coaxial differential eddy current sensor (Tx-Rx sensor) and examines the detection of surface defects in a small diameter bar.

Development, optimization, and calibration of human transient receptor potential (TRP) channel Ca mobilization assays for TRPM8, TRPV1, and TRPA1 are described. Heterologous expression of hTRPM8 in HEK293T cells was required for anti-TRPM8 antibody staining and TRPM8 agonist induced Ca mobilization signals which were both used to optimize transfection efficiency. FLIPR Calcium 6 dye concentration, loading time, and TRPM8 transfected cell seeding density were optimized and a DMSO tolerance of ≤0.

In practical engineering, due to quality inspections of connections between prefabricated components and construction errors, reserved reinforcing bars in the transition layer may be partially insufficient or even completely absent. This defect significantly impacts the structural performance of sleeve connections, particularly under tensile or shear forces. This paper proposes a novel reinforcement method to address the connection issues caused by the absence of reserved reinforcing bars in the transition layer and verifies its feasibility through systematic experiments.

In a developing embryo, information about the position of cells is encoded in the concentrations of morphogen molecules. In the fruit fly, the local concentrations of just a handful of proteins encoded by the gap genes are sufficient to specify position with a precision comparable to the spacing between cells along the anterior-posterior axis. This matches the precision of downstream events such as the striped patterns of expression in the pair-rule genes, but is not quite sufficient to define unique identities for individual cells.
