A pulsatile pediatric ventricular assist device with a dynamic stroke volume of 12 ml is currently under development at the Pennsylvania State University. A monoleaflet valve (Björk-Shiley Monostrut) and a bileaflet valve (CPHV, CarboMedics Prosthetic Heart Valve) were examined in this study. A high-speed video and data acquisition system was used to simultaneously record video images, pressure waveforms, and flow waveforms for an array of in vitro test conditions that varied heart rate and systolic duration. The CPHV in both the horizontal and vertical orientations have larger regurgitant volumes than the Monostrut valves at all operating conditions in both the inlet and outlet positions. However, the CPHV has higher stroke volumes and cardiac outputs than the Monostrut valve at higher heart rates and longer systolic durations. In addition, the hydrodynamic performance of the Monostrut valve is more sensitive to changes in operating conditions for the pulsatile pediatric ventricular assist device than the CPHV in both orientations. Additional testing is under way to identify the optimal operating conditions for each type of valve.

For SGA correlation, we further excluded 12 subjects with PE because PE may be the cause of SGA.

Methods: The ACTION VAD registry report was created from data submitted to the ACTION learning network from April 2018 to June 2023.

Background: The Pediatric Interagency Registry for Mechanical Circulatory Support (Pedimacs), supported by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, provides detailed information on pediatric patients supported with ventricular assist devices (VADs).
Methods: From September 19, 2012, to December 31, 2023, there were 1648 devices in 1349 patients (<19 years) from 39 North American Hospitals with 100 patients enrolled in 2023.
Results: Cardiomyopathy was the most common underlying etiology (59%), followed by congenital heart disease (26%) and myocarditis (8%).

Long-acting growth hormones (LAGHs) represent a significant advancement in the treatment of pediatric growth hormone deficiency (GHD), offering an alternative to daily recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) therapy. Traditional rhGH treatments, while effective, require daily injections, often leading to poor adherence due to the frequency of dosing, injection pain, and difficulties with storage and travel. In contrast, LAGHs, such as somatrogon, somapacitan, and lonapegsomatropin, are designed for once-weekly administration, improving patient compliance and quality of life.

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between cutaneous microcirculation reactivity, retinal circulation, macrocirculation function, and specific adhesion molecules in young patients with uncomplicated type 1 diabetes. Fifty-five patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), aged 8 to 18 years, were divided into subgroups based on skin microcirculation reactivity. The cutaneous microcirculatory vessels were considered reactive if post-test PORH coverage increased compared to pre-test coverage.
