Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) has been recognised as an entity since 1924, and haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) since 1955. The disease processes have generated new interest during the past two decades, and much progress has been made both in understanding and treating these diseases. They are best thought of as part of the same disease spectrum, characterised by thrombocytopenia and microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia on the blood film. We present a patient with HUS/ TTP who developed the macroangiopathic thrombotic complications of coronary occlusion causing myocardial infarction, and cerebral artery occlusion causing massive stroke. To our knowledge, this is the first published report of macroangiopathic complications of this condition.

Ischemic stroke represents a predominant cause of morbidity and mortality globally, resulting from abrupt vascular occlusion or rupture, which precipitates considerable neuronal damage. This study aims to shed more light on the specific neuroprotective mechanisms of Kirenol, a bioactive diterpene derived from traditional herbal medicine, with a particular focus on its regulation of mitochondrial dynamics via the CK2/AKT signalling pathway and its impact on the mitochondrial fusion protein Optic atrophy 1 (Opa1). The effects of Kirenol on neuronal viability, mitochondrial function, and pertinent signalling pathways were evaluated by employing a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model in rats and subjecting HT22 neuronal cells to oxidative stress.

Treatment of suspected upper lip area vascular occlusion caused by facial hyaluronic acid filler injections with hyperbaric oxygen is reported. The patient was initially treated with hyaluronidase injections in the cosmetic clinic then again in the emergency department. Persistent symptoms and signs of occlusion prompted hyperbaric oxygen treatment at 284 kPa (nine treatments over seven days).
