Suture and stapler granulomas: a word of caution.

Published: March 2007

Newly detected lung nodules during the postoperative follow-up course of a patient who has underwent pulmonary resection, is frequently a diagnostic dilemma. It is crucial to determine if the tumor is a recurrent tumor, a second primary tumor or a benign lesion. Currently, positron emission tomography seems to have replaced most of the invasive diagnostic interventions. In this study, three cases with false-positive nodules interpreted as recurrent malignancy on PET scans are presented. They were eventually found out to be foreign body hyper-reaction granulomas.

Introduction: Laparoscopic and robotic gastrectomies have become standard procedures for the treatment of gastric cancer. Among the reconstruction methods used following distal gastrectomy, the Billroth-I technique is often preferred owing to its low complication rates. Delta-shaped anastomosis, a method that eliminates the need for a mini-laparotomy, represents a significant advancement in minimally invasive surgeries.

Suture versus stapler in distal pancreatectomy and its impact on postoperative pancreatic fistula.

Sci Rep

February 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, Hospital das Clínicas HCFMUSP, Faculty of Medicine FMUSP, University of São Paulo, Avenida Dr. Arnaldo, 455 - Cerqueira César, São Paulo, SP, 01246-903, Brazil.

Postoperative pancreatic fistula is a critical complication after distal pancreatectomy. The aim of this systematic review is to assess new reports on the main pancreatic stump closure techniques (stapler and hand-sewn suture) in distal pancreatectomy, to define their influence on postoperative pancreatic fistula rates. A literature review was performed following PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO: CRD42023408181).

To explore the safety and feasibility of circular-stapled anastomosis using purse-string suture device with multi-functional seal cap in totally laparoscopic total gastrectomy esophagojejunostomy. This technique is based on a new purse-string suture device and multi-functional seal cap. After laparoscopic total gastrectomy and D2 dissection, the purse-string suture device was inserted into the abdominal cavity through the multi-functional sealing cover and placed in a proper position along the distal esophagus for formation of purse-string suture.

Background: Pulmonary hernia is a rare condition characterized by the protrusion of lung tissue through a chest wall defect. Trauma and thoracic surgery are the most common causes of acquired lung hernias. We present an unusual case of (sequential) bilateral lung herniation with parenchymal infarction after bilateral lobar lung transplantation.

Background: Using a robotic linear stapler for Braun anastomosis in robotic distal gastrectomy(RDG)with Billroth Ⅱ reconstruction is challenging due to the proximity of Braun anastomosis to the manipulating port. To overcome this problem, we performed Braun anastomosis using robotic hand sewing.

Methods: After robotic gastrectomy, we performed a side-to-side gastrojejunostomy using a linear stapler and barbed sutures.
