The authors suggest a variant of enzyme immunoassay for measuring IgA in the blood and other biologic fluids. This method is based on the use of polystyrene balls, made in the USSR, as the solid phase; the balls are placed in biochemical tubes with a conic bottom. The sensitivity of the method is approximately 40 times superior to the widely known radial diffusion in gel. Use of polystyrene balls presensitized with antispecies antibodies helps cut down the time of the assay. The method is recommended for clinical laboratories that are intended for unsophisticated investigations.

In this work, we investigate the transition from an amorphous state to crystal ordering of 3 mm-sized polystyrene beads in a two-dimensional system between two plates, one of them fixed and the other is mobile and can move across the beads. The system is vibrated vertically, and we have investigated the effect of the frequency, the number of particles, and the different materials covering the bottom and top plate. We found that crystallisation is promoted by the motion of the upper plate, which pushes particles to the centre of the plate's configuration and by the onset of tribocharged-induced electrostatic interactions.

Estimating canopy volumes of strawberry plants can be useful for predicting yields and establishing advanced management plans. Therefore, this study evaluated the spatial variability of strawberry canopy volumes using a ResNet50V2-based convolutional neural network (CNN) model trained with RGB images acquired through manual unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flights equipped with a digital color camera. A preprocessing method based on the You Only Look Once v8 Nano (YOLOv8n) object detection model was applied to correct image distortions influenced by fluctuating flight altitude under a manual maneuver.

Photonic balls can be facilely obtained through interfacial self-assembly of amphiphilic bottlebrush block polymers (BBCPs) within a water-in-oil-in-water (w/o/w) multiple emulsion system, and polystyrene (PS) has been employed as the skeleton of the balls showing no responsive properties. Here, the design and synthesis of core-shell BBCPs are demonstrated with a poly(tert-butyl acrylate)-block-polystyrene (PtBA-b-PS) block copolymer as the hydrophobic side chains and poly(ethylene glycol) as the hydrophilic block. Interfacial self-assembly of the core-shell BBCPs within shrinking droplets produces porous microspheres with full-spectrum structural colors through an organized spontaneous emulsification process.
