Background: Changes in mitral inflow and pulmonary venous flow after electrical cardioversion (ECV) in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) were showed in many former studies. In our study we investigated the effects of ECV on diastolic parameters by using tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) in patients with persistent AF.
Methods: Forty-one (24 women) consecutive patients underwent successful elective ECV for nonvalvular persistent AF, and maintained sinus rhythm for 1 month were enrolled to the study. Transthoracic echocardiography was applied to all patients before, 24 hours after and 1 month after ECV. Mitral annular TDI parameters were also measured with mitral inflow, pulmonary venous flow, and other standard echocardiographic measurements.
Results: No differences in peak myocardial early velocity (Em), deceleration time of Em, and myocardial isovolumic relaxation time measured from mitral lateral annulus before, 24 hours after, and one month after ECV were found. Peak myocardial late velocity measured 24 hours after ECV increased significantly at the end of 1 month.
Conclusion: There were not any changes in LV diastolic function except restoration of atrial mechanical contraction following ECV in patients with persistent AF.

The number of dental implants placed and restored every year is increasing across the world. However, there has been an increase in the number of reports with implant-related surgical complications in which the inferior alveolar nerve injury is the most serious one. This surgical problem can be avoided by using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), three-dimensional (3D) implant planning software, and computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology such as stereolithographic surgical guides.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (UHR) and ALL-cause and cardiovascular mortality among diabetic patients.
Methods: This study utilized health data from diabetic patients included in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2018. The Kaplan-Meier curves was employed to preliminarily explore the association between UHR, its components, and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in diabetic patients, as well as to analyze UHR levels and mortality across different genders.

Purpose: To evaluate the main factors influencing anxiety in endometriosis patients presenting to an endometriosis centre in Germany.
Methods: One hundred and eighty-two patients were asked to complete the German version of the STAI (state anxiety and trait anxiety) questionnaire prior to examination for diagnosis and treatment of pelvic pain or suspected endometriosis. Typical endometriosis symptoms, main complaints, operations, type of endometriosis and planned treatment were analyzed as influencing factors of anxiety in endometriosis patients.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence and mortality in those aged 50 years and above have decreased over the last 2 decades. However, there is a rising incidence in CRC among individuals under 50 years of age, termed early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC). EOCRC patients are more advanced stage at diagnosis and may suffer more psychosocial, emotional and financial distress.

Chronic hypereosinophilia, defined as persistent elevated blood levels of eosinophils ≥1,500/μL, is associated with tissue infiltration of eosinophils and consequent organ damage by eosinophil release of toxic mediators. The current therapies for chronic hypereosinophilia have limited success, require repetitive administration, and are associated with a variety of adverse effects. As a novel approach to treat chronic hypereosinophilia, we hypothesized that adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated delivery of an anti-human eosinophil antibody would provide one-time therapy that would mediate persistent suppression of blood eosinophil levels.
