A fast method was developed to directly infuse raw plant extracts into a linear ion trap mass spectrometer, using the ion trap to isolate and fragment as many ions as possible from the extract. The full mass spectra can be analysed by multivariate statistics to determine discriminating ions, and the fragmentation data allows rapid classification or identification of these ions. The methodology was used to screen a wide range of strains of endophytic fungi in perennial ryegrass seeds for differences in metabolic profiles. The results show that this newly developed methodology is able to determine discriminating ions that can be present in very low concentrations. It also yielded sufficient fragmentation data to classify or identify the discriminating ions.

The rapid development in agriculture and industrial sectors has raised some serious global issues like heavy metals pollution of water resources. Cadmium (Cd) is amongst the major water pollutants worldwide. In this study, two novel sorbents were prepared by using post-consumer textile waste (PCTW).

The objective of this study, PLASTOGEST, was to evaluate the risk associated with oligomers and other potentially harmful chemical compounds when consumed by humans through food. This research systematically reviewed existing literature and applies untargeted analysis to assess the fate of non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) and intentionally added substances (IAS) during in vitro digestion. Polyethylene terephthalate and polybutylene terephthalate oligomers and simulation of real food conditions were used to evaluate migration and how these oligomers behave during in vitro digestion.

Tandem mass spectrometry (MS) is one of the most effective methods to obtain the structures of organic molecules, enabling the observation of multigenerational ion fragments. Collision-induced dissociation (CID) is currently the most mature technique for mass spectrometry analysis. Ion trap mass spectrometry (ITMS) is favored for on-site detection field, due to its ability of MS analysis with a single trap and its small size.

Resonance Light Scattering (RLS) is a sensitive analytical technology hindered by its susceptibility to impurities in complex samples. This study introduces a combination of RLS with a high-efficiency sample preparation device, the Miniaturized Thermal-Assisted Purge-and-Trap (MTAPT), enhancing RLS's effectiveness in complex sample analysis. Specifically, we utilized MTAPT-RLS for the indirect screening of illegal hydrochloride drug additions in health products, based on three considerations: the transformation of bound HCl in hydrochloride drugs into volatile HCl under strong acid and heat; the minimal Cl content in health products for taste purposes; and the detectability of Cl ions by RLS upon the addition of AgNO and a stabilizer.

We report on the temperature-dependent reactions of the carbon-chain anions C and C, as well as the hydrocarbons CH and CH with H atoms in the temperature regime between 8 and 296 K. The experiments have been carried out in a temperature-variable radiofrequency multipole ion trap. From the measured kinetics, we have derived reaction rate coefficients that are constant for all considered systems in the measured temperature regime.
