From the historic and realistic viewpoints, the authors discussed the theory of TCM syndrome differentiation, pointing out that the modern TCM system of syndrome differentiation dependent treatment should consist of three components, the integral syndrome differentiation, local syndrome differentiation and microcosmic syndrome differentiation, they are independent comparatively and supplementary with each other.

Background: Optic neuritis (ON) is a complex clinical syndrome that has diverse etiologies and treatments based on its subtypes. Notably, ON associated with multiple sclerosis (MS ON) has a good prognosis for recovery irrespective of treatment, whereas ON associated with other conditions including neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders or myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease is often associated with less favorable outcomes. Delay in treatment of these non-MS ON subtypes can lead to irreversible vision loss.

Background: Obesity and metabolic syndrome (MS) accelerate arterial stiffening, increasing cardiovascular (CV) risk after transplant. BMI is limited by inability to differentiate muscle, fat mass, and fat distribution patterns. The aim of this study was to identify the best anthropometric measure to detect arterial stiffness as assessed by pulse wave velocity (PWV) in a racially diverse pediatric transplant population.

Clinically uncommon, this condition can involve the entire gastrointestinal tract, often presenting diagnostic challenges in differentiation from Crohn's disease.
Methods: In this case, atypical BD was diagnosed through endoscopic examination, whereas latent tuberculosis infection (LBTI) was confirmed via T-SPOT and PPD tests.

Background: Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (NS) is the most prevalent glomerular disease in children. Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) is synthesized in response to diverse stress factors like infections and oxidative stress. We aimed to evaluate serum and urine levels of HSP70 in children with steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) and to assess changes in HSP70 levels with prednisolone treatment.

Background: Griscelli syndrome (GS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by oculocutaneous albinism and variable immune dysfunction. Among three distinct types of GS, occurring due to different genetic mutations; GS type 1 presents with neurological manifestations, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) generally develops in GS type 2, and GS type 3 primarily exhibits oculocutaneous albinism. HLH, a life-threatening condition with excessive immune activation, may occur secondary to various triggers, including infections, and develop in different tissues, as well as in the testis, similar to Erdheim-Chester disease.
