While the diffusible antibiotic metabolite-mediated competition in BFI has been extensively characterized, the impact of intercellular contact remains largely elusive. Here, we demonstrate that the intercellular contact is a prevalent mode of interaction between beneficial soil bacteria and pathogenic filamentous fungi.

Unlabelled: Rapid and accurate identification of cultured molds is important to determine clinical significance and therapeutic decision-making. Conventional mold identification uses phenotypic macroscopic and microscopic characterization; however, this can take days or weeks for colony maturity and definitive microscopic structure formation, be limited to genus-level identification, and be misidentified due to morphologic mimics or similarities between closely related species. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) revolutionized bacterial and yeast identification but remains uncommon for molds in part because of limited reference libraries.

Background/objectives: Many fungi related to can degrade a wide range of pollutants and are widely distributed globally. SJ9 was enriched from fresh strawberry inter-root soil to yield fungi capable of degrading tetracycline, enrofloxacin, and tylosin.

Methods: SJ9 genome was sequenced, assembled, and annotated in this study utilizing bioinformatics software, PacBio, and the Illumina NovaSeq PE150 technology.

Quorum sensing-regulated microbial behaviors often negatively impact wastewater treatment, leading to issues such as biofouling in membrane bioreactors, filamentous bulking, and resistance gene transfer. Quorum quenching, which counteracts quorum sensing, offers a promising strategy to mitigate these problems. This review aims to highlight overlooked perspectives for its application in microbial aggregates during wastewater treatment.
