Alcohol-affected pedestrians are among the highest-risk groups involved in pedestrian casualty crashes. This paper investigates the opportunities to use a modified form of traffic signal operation during high-risk periods and at high-risk locations to reduce alcohol-affected pedestrian crashes and the severity of injuries that might otherwise occur. The 'Dwell-on-Red' treatment involves displaying a red traffic signal to all vehicle directions during periods when no vehicular traffic is detected, so that drivers approach high-risk intersections at a lower speed than if a green signal were displayed. Vehicle speed data were collected before and after treatment activation at both a control and treatment site. Speed data were collected both 30 m prior to and at the intersection stop line. The treatment was associated with a reduction in mean vehicle speeds of 3.9 kph (9%) and 11.0 kph (28%) at 30 m and stop line collection points, respectively, and substantial reductions in the proportion of vehicles travelling at threatening speeds with regard to the severity of pedestrian injury. Other important road safety concerns may also benefit from this form of traffic signal modification, and it is recommended that other areas of application be explored, including the other severe trauma categories typically concentrated around signalised intersections.

In the task of pavement distress recognition and classification, the complexity of the pavement environment, the small proportion of distresses in images, significant variation in distress scales, and the influence of features such as vehicles and traffic signs in the data make distress feature extraction challenging. This paper proposes a spectrum focus transformer (SFT) layer, which processes the signal spectrum and focuses on important frequency components. Initially, by thoroughly analyzing the frequency domain characteristics of image data, frequency value distribution information is obtained to achieve fine-tuning of different frequency components.

Fifth-generation (5G) communication technologies, such as millimeter wave communication, massive multiple-input-multiple-output and non-orthogonal-multiple-access (NOMA) are playing a pivotal role in promoting the modern applications of the Internet-of-Things. Traffic signals, while reducing conflicts within intersections, often lead to stop-and-go behaviors in approaching vehicles, negatively impacting traffic flow in terms of safety, efficiency, and fuel consumption. Aimed at minimizing the traffic oscillations caused by traffic signals through Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) and meeting real-time operational needs, this paper proposes a Risk-Based Adaptive Cruise Control (RACC). RACC designs the constraints of approaching a signalized intersection as expected risks, enabling compliance with all constraints while being adaptable to basic road scenarios.

Car Gearbox explosion-related injuries are very rare but could be serious. We reported a 43-year-old female patient who sustained severe bilateral lower limb injuries following an explosion of the gearbox in her private car while waiting at a traffic signal. The patient suffered from a left open tibia shaft fracture and severely macerated soft tissues, along with an open wound on the right leg.
