A novel series of spirorifamycins was synthesized and their antibacterial activity evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. This new series of rifamycins shows excellent activity against Staphylococcus aureus that is equivalent to rifabutin. However, some compounds of the series exhibit lower MICs than rifabutin against rifampin-resistant strains of S. aureus. Further, compound 2e exhibits comparable efficacy in vivo in a murine model of S. aureus septicemia model following administration by either oral or parenteral dosing routes.

We describe the novel use of dynamic sentinel node biopsy (DSNB) in five patients with primary urethral squamous cell carcinoma (U-SCC) and no evidence of inguinal node disease across two centers in North America and Europe between 03/2021 and 06/2024. Each of these referral centers sees over 75 cases of penile cancer per year and approximately 10 cases of U-SCC per year. Patients underwent DSNB concomitant to surgical resection of the primary tumor (n=3), or in a deferred manner (n=2), six weeks after primary surgery.

The regulation of vascular water potential (Ψ) by stomata is one of the most dynamic and important behaviours in vascular plants, playing a central role in determining gas exchange and vulnerability to drought. Yet, the species-specific characterization of Ψ regulatory behaviour in response to soil or atmospheric dryness remains elusive. We hypothesize that Ψ regulatory behaviour can only be defined when the combination of both vapour pressure deficit (VPD) and soil water potential (Ψ) effects is considered.

This study presents the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of a series of novel pyrrole-tethered bisbenzoxazole (PTB) derivatives as potential apoptosis-inducing agents targeting the MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line. The anticancer activity of these compounds was evaluated in vitro using the MTT assay, with tamoxifen serving as the reference therapeutic agent. Compounds B8, B14, and B18 demonstrated remarkable cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cells, exhibiting approximately 8-fold lower IC values compared to tamoxifen, while showing minimal effects on healthy fibroblasts.

Background: Plant diseases caused by plant viruses and pathogens seriously affect crop yield and quality, making prevention and control extremely difficult and posing a serious threat to human health. Marine alkaloids have novel structures and diverse biological activities, which are an important source of the development of new pesticides. In this work, ammosamide alkaloids were selected as the parent structure.

To address the critical corrosion challenges faced by metal pipelines in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, the study prepared a series of novel Fe-5Cr-(0-3)Al alloy steels. The corrosion resistance of these alloys in a water-saturated supercritical CO (sc-CO) environment was systematically investigated. The results revealed that increasing Al content significantly reduced the corrosion rate.
