Feline aggression towards people has a smaller incidence than canine aggression, but also represents an important public health problem. The aim of this work was to analyse feline aggression reported towards people, to estimate its incidence and to assess the risk factors involved. The information was obtained from the Public Health Centres in the Valencian Region (Spain). A total of 936 acts of feline aggression were analysed. Cats inflicted 8% of all animal bites reported. The annual average was 6.36 feline aggression incidents per 100,000 people. Most aggressive incidents occurred during the summer months. Children (0-14 years old) and women were more likely to be bitten. Wounds were mainly punctures, single, and mild, and were located mostly on the hands. In children, the head and neck areas were affected much more than in adults. The cats involved in incidents were mostly Siamese, female and owned; these cats mainly attacked their owners. Most occurrences were a defensive response by the cat.

Case Summary: This case report describes the clinical and pathological features of telangiectatic osteosarcoma (TOS) with brain invasion in a 4-year-old female domestic shorthair cat. The cat presented with respiratory distress, epistaxis, anorexia and significant nasal obstruction. A rhinoscopy revealed an amorphous white neoformation in the left nasal cavity.

The high recurrence rate of feline meningioma despite the generally benign histomorphology warrants additional markers of clinical aggressiveness. The Ki-67 index is commonly used as prognostic marker for meningioma recurrence in people. Osteopontin (OPN) is a protein involved in tumor progression and may be a potential malignancy marker.

Fibrosarcomas (FSA) are malignant mesenchymal tumors characterized by low chemo- and radiosensitivity. Development of novel treatment strategies for human adult FSA is hindered by the low incidence and the absence of suitable clinical models. Interestingly, aggressive FSA occur more frequently in domestic cats, hence potentially representing a clinically amenable model to assess novel therapies such as targeted imaging or theranostics.

Necrosis is a common finding in human and animal neoplasms. The percentage of tumor necrosis is included in tumor grading schemes in veterinary oncology; however, evaluation methods are often overlooked. Different studies have assessed the prognostic value of tumor necrosis in feline mammary tumors with contradictory results, which could be related to methodologic variability.

Most lesions found in the mammary glands of cats are malignant, with aggressive behavior and unfavorable prognosis. Studies on the epidemiologic and clinicopathological characteristics of mammary lesions in cats are scarce.
