Purpose: To examine the outcomes of patients with histologically confirmed central neurocytomas.
Methods And Materials: The data from 45 patients with central neurocytomas diagnosed between 1971 and 2003 were retrospectively evaluated. Various combinations of surgery, radiotherapy (RT), and chemotherapy had been used for treatment.
Results: The median follow-up was 10.0 years. The 10-year overall survival and local control rate was 83% and 60%, respectively. Patients whose tumor had a mitotic index of <3 (per 10 high-power fields) experienced a 10-year survival and local control rate of 89% and 74%, respectively, compared with 57% (p = 0.040) and 46% (p = 0.14) for patients with a tumor mitotic index of > or =3. The 10-year survival and local control rate was 90% and 74% for patients with typical tumors compared with 63% (p = 0.055) and 46% (p = 0.41) for those with atypical tumors. A comparison of gross total resection with subtotal resection showed no significant difference in survival or local control. Postoperative RT improved local control at 10 years (75% with RT vs. 51% without RT, p = 0.045); however, this did not translate into a survival benefit. No 1p19q deletions were found in the 19 tumors tested.
Conclusion: Although the overall prognosis is quite favorable, one-third of patients experienced tumor recurrence or progression at 10 years, regardless of the extent of the initial resection. Postoperative RT significantly improved local control but not survival, most likely because of the effectiveness of salvage RT. For incompletely resected atypical tumors and/or those with a high mitotic index, consideration should be given to adjuvant RT because of the more aggressive nature.

Purpose: To review recent advances with radiation therapy (RT) for soft tissue sarcomas (STS).
Recent Findings: Newer data showcases hypofractionated preoperative RT for soft tissue sarcomas treated with surgery to be safe and effective, however, long-term follow up data is pending. Hypofractionated and dose-escalated RT in patients with unresectable STS is also being studied, for which we remain optimistic given advances in RT planning approaches.

Background: Our previous study have demonstrated chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH) induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis and cardiac dysfunction. However, the molecular mechanisms are complicated and varied. In this study, we first investigated the CaMKIIγ expression and signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of cardiomyocyte apoptosis after CIH.

Purpose: Given the lack of available and effective interventions to address the detrimental consequences of perinatal exposure to intimate partner violence (IPV) on maternal mental health, and reported very low access to IPV-related mental health services in Mexico, we examined the feasibility and efficacy of a culturally adapted, virtual, brief group psychosocial intervention designed to improve maternal mental and physical health and reduce IPV revictimization for pregnant women exposed to IPV. In this pilot randomized controlled trial, we evaluated maternal outcomes after participation in the Pregnant Moms' Empowerment Program (PMEP) in Mexico.
Methods: Women were recruited from social service agencies and health centers in the community, as well as social media advertisements that targeted pregnant women living in Mexico.

Melanoma is the fifth most common skin cancer in the UK, accounting for 4% of all new cancer cases, with a predicted 7% increase in incidence between 2014-35. In parallel, since the initial publication of the Melanoma NICE Guidelines in 2015, there has been a paradigm shift in the management of the disease, with the introduction of effective systemic therapies. These innovations have reshaped the management of melanoma throughout the patient journey, and improved clinical outcomes.

The linear scaling divide-expand-consolidate (DEC) framework is expanded to include unrestricted Hartree-Fock references. By partitioning the orbital space and employing local molecular orbitals, the full molecular calculation can be performed as independent calculations on individual fragments, making the method well-suited for massively parallel implementations. This approach also incorporates error control through the fragment optimization threshold (FOT), which maintains precision and consistency throughout the calculations.
