Glycosylation gene expression profiles enable prognosis prediction for colorectal cancer.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Anus and Intestine Surgery, The Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University, No. 28 Guiyi Street, Yunyan District, Guiyang City, 550004, Guizhou Province, China.

This study developed a prognostic model for patients with colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) based on glycosylation-associated genes. By analyzing TCGA-COAD data, 110 key genes were identified, and a prognostic model incorporating five glycosylation-related genes was constructed. The model exhibits good predictive performance and is significantly associated with clinical features such as age, N stage, M stage, and lymph node count.

Cervical cancer (CESC) presents significant clinical challenges due to its complex tumor microenvironment (TME) and varied treatment responses. This study identified undifferentiated M0 macrophages as high-risk immune cells critically involved in CESC progression. Co-culture experiments further demonstrated that M0 macrophages significantly promoted HeLa cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, underscoring their pivotal role in modulating tumor cell behavior within the TME.

Dementia refers to an umbrella phenotype of many different underlying pathologies with Alzheimer's disease (AD) being the most common type. Neuropathological examination remains the gold standard for accurate AD diagnosis, however, most that we know about AD genetics is based on Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) of clinically defined AD. Such studies have identified multiple AD susceptibility variants with a significant portion of the heritability unexplained and highlighting the phenotypic and genetic heterogeneity of the clinically defined entity.

Microbiota analysis of perimenopausal women experiencing recurrent vaginitis in conjunction with urinary tract infection.

BMC Microbiol

January 2025

Shanghai-MOST Key Laboratory of Health and Disease Genomics, NHC Key Lab of Reproduction Regulation, Shanghai Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Technologies, Shanghai, 200237, China.

Background: Recurrent vaginitis in conjunction with urinary tract infection (RV/UTI) in perimenopausal women is a common clinical condition that impacts both doctors and patients. Its pathogenesis is not completely known, but the urogenital microbiota is thought to be involved. We compared the urogenital and gut microbiotas of perimenopausal women experiencing RV/UTI with those of age-matched controls to provide a new microbiological perspective and scheme for solving clinical problems.
