Background: A structural interaction of the oncofetal large tenascin-C splice variants (Tn-C(L)) and the gamma2-chain of laminin-5 (Ln-5/gamma2) was recently demonstrated in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). In situ different patterns of co-localization and co-deposition of both proteins could be detected. Especially the co-localization in re-established basement membrane (BM) structures seemed to be biologically meaningful within the process of tumour progression.
Methods: The amount of Tn-C(L) incorporated in reorganized OSCC BM structures at the tumour margins was investigated by a laser scanning microscopy-based quantitative co-localization analysis.
Results: In the BM of normal oral mucosa no Tn-C(L) could be detected. In dysplastic and neoplastic oral mucosa a distinct co-localization of Tn-C(L) and Ln-5/gamma2 in the BM region could be observed. The extent of Tn-C(L) arrangement into reorganized BM structures correlated with malignancy grade.
Conclusions: The results suggest at first, a modulation of carcinomatous BM structures by the inclusion of oncofetal matrix proteins during tumour progression and secondly, the BM incorporation of the adhesion-modulating molecule Tn-C(L) as a pre-invasive structural phenomenon in OSCC.

Objective: The present study delves into the exploration of diagnostic biomarkers linked with ferroptosis in the context of diabetic nephropathy, unraveling their underlying molecular mechanisms.
Methods: In this study, we retrieved datasets GSE96804 and GSE30529 as the training cohort, followed by screening for Differentially Expressed Genes (DEGs). By intersecting these DEGs with known ferroptosisrelated genes, we obtained the differentially expressed genes related to ferroptosis (DEFGs).

Background: Cisplatin is an effective anti-cancer drug with limited clinical applications due to ototoxicity. Resveratrol, known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, has been reported to mitigate these adverse effects, although the underlying mechanism remains under-researched.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects and underlying mechanisms of resveratrol on cisplatin-induced ototoxicity.

Background: Epidemiological and genetic studies have elucidated associations between antihypertensive medication and Alzheimer's disease (AD), with the directionality of these associations varying upon the specific class of antihypertensive agents.
Methods: Genetic instruments for the expression of antihypertensive drug target genes were identified using expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) in blood, which are associated with systolic blood pressure (SBP). Exposure was derived from existing eQTL data in blood from the eQTLGen consortium and in the brain from the PsychENCODE and subsequently replicated in GTEx V8 and BrainMeta V2.

Background: 3D cellular structures have been considered the following step in the evaluation of drugs penetration after 2D cultures since they are more physiologically representative in cancer cell biology. Here the penetration capabilities of Pt (IV)-loaded ultrasmall iron oxide nanoparticles in 143B osteosarcoma multicellular spheroids of different sizes is conducted by a multidimensional quantitative approach. Single cell (SC) and imaging techniques (laser ablation, LA) coupled to inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) are used to visualize their penetration pathways and distribution in comparison to those of cisplatin.

Mendelian randomization (MR) was employed to investigate the causal relationships between immune cell phenotypes, hyperthyroidism (HD), and potential metabolic mediators. In this study, we acquired 731 immune cell phenotypes from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) (n = 18,622), HD data from the research by Handan Melike Dönertaş et al. (3,731 cases, 480,867 controls), and aggregated statistics of 1,400 blood metabolites from UK Biobank (n = 115,078).
