The aim of the article was to study functional asymmetry between hemispheres and to find an ability to mirror phenomena in 25 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and 12 patients with multiple sclerosis. Patients with SLE had the following individual profiles of functional asymmetry: right, mainly right, mixed and mainly left. Nobody of them had either symmetric or left profiles. An ability to mirror phenomena (mirror drawing and mirror writing) has been found in 56% of SLE patients with different individual profiles of functional asymmetry. These patients significantly differed from the control group and patients with multiple sclerosis.

Identifying impairments and compensatory strategies for temporal gait asymmetry in post-stroke persons.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Neurorehabilitation Research Center, Kio University, 4-2-2 Umaminaka, Kitakatsuragi-gun, Koryo, Nara, 635-0832, Japan.

In post-stroke persons, temporal gait asymmetry (TGA) during comfortable gait involves a combination of pure impairments and compensatory strategies. In this study, we aimed to differentiate between pure impairments and compensatory strategies underlying TGA in post-stroke individuals and identify associated clinical factors. We examined 39 post-stroke individuals who participated in comfortable walking speed (CWS) and rhythmic auditory cueing (RAC).

This study examines the performance of asymmetric three-phase distribution systems under the influence of FACT deives such as a static VAR compensator (SVC) and a unified power controller (UPC). Each suggested device's operating principle is developed in this paper in order to provide the best model to be used in the power flow analysis. The performance of the IEEE-13 bus imbalanced distribution model is investigated using the Newton-Raphson method.

FhaA plays a key role in mycobacterial polar elongation and asymmetric growth.

mBio

January 2025

Analytical Biochemistry and Proteomics Unit, Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable and Institut Pasteur de Montevideo, Montevideo, Uruguay.

Unlabelled: Mycobacteria, including pathogens like , exhibit unique growth patterns and cell envelope structures that challenge our understanding of bacterial physiology. This study sheds light on FhaA, a conserved protein in , revealing its pivotal role in coordinating cell envelope biogenesis and asymmetric growth. The elucidation of the FhaA interactome in living mycobacterial cells reveals its participation in the protein network orchestrating cell envelope biogenesis and cell elongation/division.

Objective: Lumbo-pelvic-hip complex muscle training is considered a crucial component of exercise rehabilitation for postpartum women with pelvic girdle pain (PGP). However, there is a paucity of research evidence regarding the morphological changes and contraction function of these muscles in postpartum women with PGP. Understanding the alterations in lumbo-pelvic-hip complex muscles function associated with PGP, is crucial for tailoring effective rehabilitation strategies and promoting optimal postpartum recovery.

Purpose: Introducing compensated variable-prephasing (CVP), a phantom-based method for gradient waveform measurements. The technique is based on the variable-prephasing (VP) method, but takes into account the effects of all gradients involved in the measurement.

Methods: We conducted measurements of a trapezoidal test gradient and of an EPI readout gradient train with three approaches: VP, CVP, and fully compensated variable-prephasing (FCVP).
