Background/aims: Exercise-induced proteinuria is a common consequence of physical activity, although its mechanism is not clear. Oxidant stress has been proposed as one of different factors involved in postexercise proteinuria in rats. In this study we investigated whether reactive oxygen radicals generated during exercise play a role in exercise-induced proteinuria in sedentary and trained men.
Methods: The validity of oxidant stress following stepwise maximal exercise on proteinuria was investigated in sedentary and trained subjects before and after antioxidant vitamin treatment (A, C, and E) for 2 months. While protein carbonyl content in serum and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in erythrocytes and urine were used as oxidant stress markers, total protein, albumin, beta(2)-microglobulin in urine were assayed for proteinuria in five consecutive specimens after exercise. Urines were collected before exercise, then 30 min, 2, 8 and 24 h postexercise.
Results: Increased urinary protein levels and mixed type proteinuria were determined after 30 min of exercise in sedentary and trained subjects. Proteinuria was normalized at 2 and 8 h specimens. However, glomerular type proteinuria was identified at 24 h specimen in both groups. Oxidant stress markers were significantly elevated in sedentary and trained subjects. Antioxidant treatment prevented the increase in oxidant stress markers, urinary protein levels and the occurrence of glomerular type proteinuria after exhaustive exercise at 24 h in both groups.
Conclusions: These findings suggest that the exercise-induced oxidant stress may contribute to exercise-induced proteinuria in sedentary and trained men.

The new Maternity Protection Act (MuSchG) enacted in 2018, is intended to enable pregnant employees to carry out their work, to protect the pregnant employee and the child and to counteract discrimination. Nevertheless, a ban on surgical activities or even a ban on employment is often issued, although the law first requires the workplace to be reorganized to enable the pregnant employee to continue working. In many cases, such bans are issued without the legally required risk assessment, which constitutes prohibited discrimination.

Background: Developing interventions along with the population of interest using systems thinking is a promising method to address the underlying system dynamics of overweight. The purpose of this study is twofold: to gain insight into the perspectives of adolescents regarding: (1) the system dynamics of energy balance-related behaviours (EBRBs) (physical activity, screen use, sleep behaviour and dietary behaviour); and (2) underlying mechanisms and overarching drivers of unhealthy EBRBs.
Methods: We conducted Participatory Action Research (PAR) to map the system dynamics of EBRBs together with adolescents aged 10-14 years old living in a lower socioeconomic, ethnically diverse neighbourhood in Amsterdam East, the Netherlands.

Background And Objectives: The preschool context produces excessive sedentary behavior in children. The systematic fulfillment of structured physical activities during school time, namely a daily movement routine (DMR), can contribute to increasing the quantity of physical activity (PA) and to improving physical literacy (PL), reaching the WHO's recommendations.
Aim: The present study aims to quantify the sedentary time spent by 4- and 5-year-old preschool children and to verify the effects that a DMR could have on sedentary habits in preschool children.
