The sodium salt of the diethyl 1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylate (2) of amphiphilic character is able to interact with (+)-amphetamine, (+)-methamphetamine, and dopamine, yielding stable complexes. Crystal structure of 2 with (+)-amphetamine leads to a very nice double helical supramolecular structure.

Groundwater arsenic (As), contamination is a significant issue worldwide including China and Pakistan, particularly in canal command areas. In this study, 131 groundwater samples were collected, and three machine learning models [Random Forest (RF), Logistic Regression (LR), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN)] were employed to predict As concentration. Descriptive statistics helped to conclude that all of the samples were inside the permitted limit of WHO for pH, Ca, Mg, Turbidity, Cl, K, Na, SO, NO, F and beyond limit of WHO for EC, HCO, TDS, and As.

Background: Reduction of intracellular Na accumulation through late Na current inhibition has been recognized as a target for cardiac Ca handling which underlies myocardial contractility and relaxation in heart failure (HF). Riluzole, an Na channel blocker with enhancement of Ca-activated K channel function, used for management of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is effective in suppressing Ca leak and therefore may improve cardiac function.

Objectives: The study aim was to investigate whether riluzole lowers HF incidence.

Background: A new pathophysiologic approach to evaluating hyponatremic patients identified the different causes of hyponatremia, including non-hyponatremic patients with renal salt wasting (RSW). RSW was considered a rare to nonexistent syndrome until we found 24 (38%) of 62 hyponatremic patients in a general medical ward to have RSW. We induced RSW in rats by injecting plasma from 18 AD patients suspected to have RSW.

The role played by anionic channels in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is not known. Chloride channel accessory 1 (CLCA1) facilitates the activity of TMEM16A (Anoctamin-1), a Ca2+-dependent Cl- channel. We examined if CLCA1/TMEM16A had a role in DKD.

Removal of lithium from aqueous solutions by precipitation with sodium and choline alkanoate soaps.

In order to comply with the expected tightening of discharge limits for lithium to surface waters, the lithium-ion battery industry will need access to methods to reduce the concentration of lithium in wastewater down to ppm levels. In this Communication, we discuss the possibility of using sodium and choline soaps as precipitating agents for lithium, comparing the two soap classes and probing the influence of the carbon chain length. It was found that lithium concentrations down to 10 ppm can be reached with sodium stearate, and down to 1 ppm with choline stearate, using a slight excess of the precipitating agent.
