Background: Pain relief is a priority for patients with hip fractures who present to Emergency Departments (EDs). Intranasal fentanyl (INF) is an ideal option for nurse initiated analgesia as it does not require intravenous access and can expedite care prior to examination by a physician.
Local Problem: Pain relief in patients with hip fractures is delayed during episodes of ED crowding.

Background: Overcrowding of paediatric emergency departments (EDs) is a worldwide issue, where improving the quality of care is a priority. The main objective of this study was to determine the effect of triage nurse-initiated X-ray radiography on length of stay in paediatric emergency admissions.
Methods: This retrospective, monocentric, descriptive study was performed in two successive 3-month periods: a pre-protocol ('before') period from 3 February to 3 May 2020 and a protocol ('after') period from 4 May to 2 August 2020, when patients underwent nurse-initiated X-ray radiography.

Introduction: State regulations may impede the use of nurse-initiated protocols to begin life-saving treatments when patients arrive to the emergency department. In crowding and small-scale disaster events, this could translate to life and death practice differences. Nevertheless, research demonstrates nurses do utilize nurse-initiated protocols despite legal prohibitions.

The aim of this study was to systematically review the literature on the effectiveness of nurse-initiated X-ray for emergency department patients with distal limb injuries. The review protocol was registered with PROSPERO and CINHAL, MEDLINE and EMBASE were searched for studies comparing nurse-initiated vs physician-initiated X-ray. Because of heterogeneity of patients, providers and outcomes, a meta-analysis was not performed.

Objective: Quality improvement (QI) analytic methodology is rarely encountered in the emergency medicine literature. We sought to comparatively apply QI design and analysis techniques to an existing data set, and discuss these techniques as an alternative to standard research methodology for evaluating a change in a process of care.
Methods: We used data from a previously published randomized controlled trial on triage-nurse initiated radiography using the Ottawa ankle rules (OAR).
