Prosthetic mesh infection constitutes one of the major postsurgical complications following abdominal hernia repair. Antibacterial coatings represent a prophylactic strategy to reduce the risk of infection. This study assessed the in vitro response of two antibacterial gels made of 1% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) functionalized with an antiseptic (chlorhexidine, CHX) or an antibiotic (rifampicin, RIF), developed for the coating of polypropylene (PP) meshes for hernia repair.

Methods: Case report of a Clavien-Dindo IVb complication after supposedly straightforward LC and review of all published case reports on complications from lost gallstones from 2000-2022.

Endoscopic tattooing with India ink is a common practice before the laparoscopic resection of polyps/tumours. Sometimes, due to inadvertent intramuscular instead of submucosal injection, it may lead to peritoneal spillage precluding the laparoscopic approach and warrant open resection. There are a few reports of post-operative abdominal sepsis.

Inflammation in the intestines causes abdominal pain that is challenging to manage. The terminals of sensory neurons innervating the gut are surrounded by glia. Here, using a mouse model of acute colitis, we found that enteric glia contribute to visceral pain by secreting factors that sensitized sensory nerves innervating the gut in response to inflammation.
