Silica gardens consist of hollow tubular structures that form from salt crystals seeded into silicate solution. We investigate the structure and elemental composition of these tubes in the context of a recently developed experimental model that allows quantitative analyses based on predetermined reactant concentrations and flow rates. In these experiments, cupric sulfate solution is injected into large volumes of waterglass. The walls of the resulting tubular structures have a typical width of 10 microm and are gradient materials. Micro-Raman spectroscopy along with energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence data identify amorphous silica and copper(ii) hydroxide as the main compounds within the inner and outer tube surfaces, respectively. Upon heating the blueish precipitates to approximately 150 degrees C, the material turns black as copper(ii) hydroxide decomposes to copper(ii) oxide. Moreover, we present high resolution transmission electron micrographs that reveal polycrystalline morphologies.

During digestion, almost 50% of absorbed essential amino acids (AAs) are metabolised by intestinal tissue, thus not appearing directly in the portal vein. This value, which is referred to as first-pass metabolism, seems high in relation to the overall efficiency of AA use considered in growth models. Experimental studies of first-pass metabolism are complicated due to the presence of numerous metabolic fluxes in the intestine and to the dynamics of digestion and absorption.

An original design of a simple bioreactor was used to fabricate two tubular, 200 cm long BC structures by culturing B-11267 on a molasses medium. In addition, a tubular BC-based biocomposite with improved mechanical properties was obtained by combining cultivation on the molasses medium with in situ chemical modification by polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Moreover, the present study investigated the BC production by the B-11267 strain on the media with different molasses concentrations under agitated culture conditions.

The epithelial and mesenchymal features of colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRAC) cell lines were compared in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) cultures. In 2D cultures, the three CRAC cell lines exhibited epithelial characteristics with high E-cadherin and low vimentin levels, whereas two exhibited mesenchymal traits with opposite expression patterns. In 3D cultures using low-attachment plates, mesenchymal cells from 2D cultures showed reduced vimentin mRNA levels.

Concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns are widely employed in high-rise buildings, long-span bridges, and seismic-resistant structures due to their superior load-bearing capacity, structural efficiency, and resilience under extreme loading conditions. This study uses symbolic regression with structural design code provisions to predict the eccentric strength of concrete filled-steel tubular columns with circular shape (CCFST) and rectangular shape (RCFST).
