Any toxicant that affects Sertoli cell development can potentially disturb male fertility. So far, the effects of organochlorine compounds have been poorly investigated in male. Here, we studied the effects of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), an organochloride pesticide, on Sertoli cells. DDT inhibited the cAMP response to follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), the major endocrine control of Sertoli cell development, and to a beta2-agonist, isoproterenol. DDT exposure decreased the level of FSH binding sites. Direct adenylyl cyclase activation by Forskolin was unaltered by DDT, while the activation of Galphas by cholera toxin was decreased by DDT. The DDT inhibitory effect on the FSH response was also observed in Ser W3 cells, a Sertoli cell-derived immortalized cell line. All these effects were reproduced by the lipophilic aromatic bisphenol A but not by structurally unrelated CisPlatin. In conclusion, these results are a first step in understanding the molecular basis of DDT deleterious effects in spermatogenesis.

Background: Women's elevated risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) compared to men remains unclear, with gonadal hormones proposed as potential contributors. This study aimed to explore the association between follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), estradiol (E2), neuropsychological AD stages, and cerebral Aβ deposition.
Methods: A total of 679 subjects were included in the study (N = 198 for cognitively normal (CN), N = 373 for mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and N = 108 for AD dementia groups).

Background: Sex hormones are frequently implicated in the development of cerebral small vessel disease among midlife women. However, few studies directly measure endogenous sex hormones and consider them in relation to white matter hyperintensities (WMH), indicators of cerebral small vessel disease. Further, existing work on hormones, menopause, and the brain typically focuses on ovarian estradiol (E2), with limited consideration of estrone (E1), the primary postmenopausal estrogen, or follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), an indicator of ovarian age.

Objective: To explore whether acupuncture combined with clomiphene can reduce the luteinizing hormone-to follicle-stimulating hormone ratio and impact the gut microbiota in patients with obese polycystic ovary syndrome.
Methods: This open-label, randomized, parallel-group controlled trial included 86 women aged 20-40 years with obese polycystic ovary syndrome and 19 healthy controls. Participants were randomly assigned to either an acupuncture combined with clomiphene group or a clomiphene-only group, with a healthy control group for comparison.

Objective: To build a prediction nomogram for early prediction of live birth probabilities according to number of oocytes retrieved in women ≤ 35 years of age.
Methods: A prediction model was built including 9265 infertile women ≤ 35 years of age accepting their first ovum pick-up cycle from January 2018 to December 2022. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression was performed to identify independent predictors and establish a nomogram to predict reproductive outcomes.

The transition period is a crucial stage in the reproductive cycle for dams and is linked closely with postpartum recovery, reproduction performance, and health. The confronting problem in the yak industry is that transition yaks under a conventional grazing feeding regime endure nutritional deficiency since this period is in late winter and early spring of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with the lack of grass on natural pasture. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of perinatal nutritional supplementation and early weaning on serum biochemistry, reproductive performance, and metabolomics in transition yaks.
