A search for the appearance of tau neutrinos from nu(mu) <--> nu(tau) oscillations in the atmospheric neutrinos has been performed using 1489.2 days of atmospheric neutrino data from the Super-Kamiokande-I experiment. A best fit tau neutrino appearance signal of 138+/-48(stat)-32(+15)(syst) events is obtained with an expectation of 78+/-26(syst). The hypothesis of no tau neutrino appearance is disfavored by 2.4 sigma.

QED atoms are composed of unstructured and point-like lepton pairs bound together by the electromagnetic force. The smallest and heaviest QED atom is formed by a ττ pair. The results are obtained using the full data sample of 988 fb^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e^{+}e^{-} collider, which contains 912×10^{6} ττ pairs. We observe no significant signal and set 95% CL upper limits on the couplings of the heavy right-handed neutrinos to the conventional standard model left-handed neutrinos in the mass range 0.

The observed pattern of lepton flavor mixing and CP violation strongly indicates the possible existence of a simple flavor symmetry in the neutrino sector-the effective Majorana neutrino mass term keeps invariant when the three left-handed neutrino fields transform asνeL→(νeL)c,νμL→(ντL)candντL→(νμL)c. A direct application of such a-reflection symmetry to the canonical seesaw mechanism can help a lot to constrain the flavor textures of active and sterile Majorana neutrinos. The present article is intended to summarize the latest progress made in exploring the properties of this minimal flavor symmetry, its translational and rotational extensions, its soft breaking effects via radiative corrections from a superhigh energy scale to the electroweak scale, and its various phenomenological implications.

We extend the Standard Model gauge group by and introduce two scalars, a doublet and a singlet, that are charged under this new group and have lepton flavour violating couplings. Since in this model processes can only be mediated by interactions, bounds from transitions can be avoided while allowing for accessible new physics. We consider the case of a boson with a mass of GeV and a gauge coupling , which is in reach of Belle-II, and a long-lived boson with a mass of which can be probed by searching for .
