We describe a case of prefemoral fat pad impingement between the anterior aspect of the distal femur and the patella undersurface, and a mass-like fatty tissue protrusion on the lateral femoral condyle that caused mechanical symptoms.

Background: The peripatellar fat pads are critical for protective cushioning during movement, and their endocrine function has been shown to affect osteoarthritis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is frequently used to visualize edema of the peripatellar fat pads due to injury. In this study, we aimed to assess the relationship between peripatellar fat pad edema and patellofemoral maltracking MRI parameters and investigate the association among cases of peripatellar fat pad edema.

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is common. Ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection (UGIAI) using the superolateral approach is currently the gold standard for treating knee OA, but it is not 100% accurate, especially in patients with no knee effusion. Herein, we present a case series of chronic knee OA treated with a novel infrapatellar approach to UGIAI.
