Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, Süleyman Demirel University, Isparta, Turkey.

Published: June 2007

Background: Primary ovarian leiomyoma is a rare, usually small and incidentally detected neoplasm, clinically indistinguishable from subserous leiomyomas and ovarian fibromas, until histopathological confirmation.

Case Report: We report a rare case of unilateral, ovarian leiomyoma that was not associated with uterine tumor in a 17-year-old woman. Trans abdominal ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a pelvic mass (15 cm x 12 cm).

Conclusion: At laparotomy, unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed and histologic examination revealed a leiomyoma arising primarily in the ovary.

Damage of fallopian tube, endometriosis, fibroid uterus, adenomysis and polycystic ovary syndrome are the major pelvic pathology that causes subfertility. Although there are many diagnostic tests available, the clinical presentation of each patient can usually be linked to specific and efficient testing strategies. Transvaginal sonographic (TVS) imaging is an effective, easy to use, safe and readily available noninvasive means to evaluate fertility potential.

Women's health conditions are influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Understanding these factors individually and their interactions is crucial for implementing preventative, personalized medicine. However, since genetics and environmental exposures, particularly social determinants of health (SDoH), are correlated with race and ancestry, risk models without careful consideration of these measures can exacerbate health disparities.

Background: Reproductive health conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and uterine fibroids pose a significant burden to people who menstruate, health care systems, and economies. Despite clinical guidelines for each condition, prolonged delays in diagnosis are commonplace, resulting in an increase to health care costs and risk of health complications. Symptom checker apps have the potential to significantly reduce time to diagnosis by providing users with health information and tools to better understand their symptoms.
