Background: In vitro fertilization (IVF) researches have suggested that cystathionine beta synthase (CBS) is involved in oocyte development. However, little is known about the regional and cellular expression patterns of CBS in the ovary. The purpose of this study was to analyze the localization of CBS in mice ovaries and to investigate the expression profile during follicular development.

Methods: We used in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical analysis to determine CBS expression in the ovaries of female Balb/c mice. Then the follicles were collected from F1 (C57BL x Balb/c) mice and cultured in vitro. With the method of semi-quantitative RT-PCR, we also investigated the expression profile of CBS during follicular development.

Results: CBS was absent in the oocytes, although it was ubiquitously expressed in the ovary with the strongest expression in follicular cells at all stages. In late antral follicles, CBS expression was markedly higher in granulosa cells located close to the antrum and in cumulus cells around the oocyte. The semi-quantitative RT-PCR showed that CBS mRNA was detected in follicles at all stages in vitro. In cumulus-oocyte complexes superovulated, CBS expression also increased rapidly.

Conclusions: CBS was located mainly in the follicular cells in the ovaries. The level of CBS expression is high in follicles during folliculogenesis in mice. Differences in the CBS expression profile between oocyte and follicular cells suggest a role for CBS as a mediator in interactions between oocyte and granulosa cells.

Atherosclerosis is accompanied by inflammation that underlies cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its vascular manifestations, including acute stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease, the leading causes of morbidity/mortality worldwide. The monolayer of endothelial cells formed on the luminal surface of arteries and veins regulates vascular tone and permeability, which supports vascular homeostasis. Endothelial dysfunction, the first step in the development of atherosclerosis, is caused by mechanical and biochemical factors that disrupt vascular homeostasis and induce inflammation.

Medulloblastoma (MB) is the most common malignant brain tumor in children, typically arising during infancy and childhood. Despite multimodal therapies achieving a response rate of 70% in children older than 3 years, treatment remains challenging. Ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death, can be induced in medulloblastoma cells in vitro using erastin or RSL3.

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is bioactive in mammals. Reduced HS was observe in pregnancy complications, pre-eclampsia (PE). Our previous data demonstrated that low dose of H2S enhanced cytotrophoblast (CTB) invasion and migration via mitochondria dynamics without knowing the mechanisms.

Circadian clock regulates plant development and physiology by anticipating daily environmental changes. Here we studied the core clock protein involved in β-aminobutyric acid (BABA)-inducible SAR resistance to Rhizopus stolonifer in peach fruit. BABA elicitation barely primed the accumulation of jasmonate or ethylene, whose regulation was associated with morning-loop gene expression.

Background: Oxidative aggression is a hallmark of varicocele and may depend on decreased reactive ability of the endogenous antioxidant system following heat stress. We aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms. Therefore, the expression of the main enzyme proteins involved in the generation of endogenous antioxidant power, cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS), cystathionine gamma-lyase (CSE), heme oxygenase (HO-1), and also, some of the metabolites (methionine, homocysteine, taurine and vitamin B6) reporting on their activity was investigated using a surgical varicocele model in rats.
