Published: November 2006

Introduction: The purpose of the study was to investigate duration of treatment and dropout from treatment in private psychiatric practices.

Materials And Methods: Data from the data base: Quality Assurance in Danish Psychiatric Private Practice (QAD3P) is applied for the investigation. The database was established in 1996 and includes information about approximately 40,000 treatment episodes. The present investigation uses information about 6,067 treatment episodes from 10 private practising psychiatrists, all of whom participated continuously in the Quality Assurance data base in the period 1998-2002 inclusive.

Results: Depression, anxiety and personal disorders constitute 82% of the treated episodes. Schizophrenia spectrum disorders show the longest duration of treatment (33.4% are treated for longer than 12 months), and persons with personality disorders have the shortest treatment duration (66.9% terminate the treatment within 6 months). Dropout from treatment is predicted (logistic regression) by gender (male), OR 1.31, 95% CI, 1.15-1.48 and age (< or = 44 years) (OR 2.49, 95% CI 2.21-2.81).

Conclusion: Approximately 25% of the patients drop out of treatment. The causes for this are not known, but are correlated to patients' young age (< or = 44 years) and gender (male).

Combination therapies have emerged as a promising approach for treating complex diseases, particularly cancer. However, predicting the efficacy and safety profiles of these therapies remains a significant challenge, primarily because of the complex interactions among drugs and their wide-ranging effects. To address this issue, we introduce DD-PRiSM (Decomposition of Drug-Pair Response into Synergy and Monotherapy effect), a deep-learning pipeline that predicts the effects of combination therapy.

Background: Evidence suggests L-arginine may be effective at reducing pre-eclampsia and related outcomes. However, whether L-arginine can prevent or only treat pre-eclampsia, and thus the target population and timing of initiation, remains unknown.

Objectives: To evaluate the effects of L-arginine and L-citrulline (precursor of L-arginine) on the prevention and treatment of pre-eclampsia.

Multiple porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) subtypes coinfect numerous pig farms in China, and commercial PRRSV vaccines offer limited cross-protection against heterologous strains. Our previous research confirmed that a PRRSV lineage 1 branch attenuated live vaccine (SD-R) provides cross-protection against HP-PRRSV, NADC30-like PRRSV and NADC34-like PRRSV. HP-PRRSV has undergone significant genetic variation following nearly two decades of evolution and has transformed into a subtype referred to as HP-like PRRSV, which also exhibits high pathogenicity.
