A catadioptric wide-angle lens having a rectilinear projection scheme has been developed with a view to possible applications in the security-surveillance area. The lens has been designed for a miniature camera with a video graphics array-grade 1/3 in. color CCD sensor. The field of view of the lens is over 151 degrees , and still distortion is under 1%. Furthermore, the modulation transfer function is better than 0.3 at 70 line pairs/mm over the whole active area of the image sensor.

Spherical diverging acoustic lenses mounted on flat 2-D row-column-addressed (RCA) ultrasound transducers have shown the potential to extend the field of view (FOV) from a rectilinear to a curvilinear volume region and, thereby, enable 3-D imaging of large organs. Such lenses are usually designed for small aperture low-frequency transducers, which have limited resolution. Moreover, they are made of off-the-shelf pieces of materials, which leaves no room for optimization.

Purpose: To determine the significance of any association between either change in angle kappa (Κ°) or the rectilinear displacement (L, mm) of the first Purkinje image relative to the pupil center and unexpected changes in astigmatism after phacoemulsification.

Methods: Orbscan II (Bausch and Lomb) measurements were taken at 1, 2, and 3 months after unremarkable phacoemulsification in patients implanted with spherical (group 1, SA60AT, Alcon) or aspheric (group 2, SN60WF, Alcon) nontoric IOLs. The outputs were used to calculate L.

Two superposed layers of transparent cylindrical lenslet gratings create classical moiré fringes, when illuminated from behind. We rely on this observation to conceive special devices made of superposed lenslet gratings that produce animated moirés when they are tilted against the light. One-dimensional moirés can show a message moving back and forth along a given direction or radially expanding towards the exterior of a disk.

A double-curved diverging lens over the flat row-column-addressed (RCA) 2-D array can extend its inherent rectilinear 3-D imaging field of view (FOV) to a curvilinear volume region, which is necessary for applications such as abdominal and cardiac imaging. Two concave lenses with radii of 12.7 and 25.

Global, secure quantum channels will require efficient distribution of entangled photons. Long distance, low-loss interconnects can only be realized using photons as quantum information carriers. However, a quantum light source combining both high qubit fidelity and on-demand bright emission has proven elusive.
