Objectives: We investigated the relationship between P16-immunostaining patterns and clinicopathological factors in early uterine cervix cancers and assessed whether P16-immunostaining patterns predict the prognosis of the patients with early uterine cervix cancers.

Methods: Twenty-nine early squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) specimens of the uterus were examined using immunohistochemistry for P16 expression. The P16-immunostaining pattern was classified into two groups: the homogeneous type and the heterogeneous type. P16-immunostaining patterns were evaluated in different parts of the carcinoma in situ (CIS): the center of the tumor and the front interface of the infiltrating tumor.

Results: All specimens were of the homogeneous type in CIS. The P16-immunostaining pattern was significantly of the heterogeneous type in the front interface of the infiltrating tumor with lymphatic invasion, vascular invasion, lymph node metastasis, and recurrence. Regarding the P16-immunostaining patterns in the front interface of the infiltrating tumor, the patients with the heterogeneous type showed a significantly worse prognosis than the patients with the homogeneous type.

Conclusions: The prognosis of patients with early uterine cervical SCC may be predicted by evaluating the P16-immunostaining pattern in the front interface of the infiltrating tumor.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of simultaneous staining for p16 and p53 proteins in categorizing head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) as either HPV-associated or HPV-independent.
  • Researchers stained 31 HNSCC samples for p16 and p53, and used advanced sequencing methods to analyze mutations and HPV presence in some cases.
  • Results showed that most tumors (28 out of 31) could be classified simply based on the staining patterns, with most HPV-A tumors having p16 positivity and wildtype p53, while HPV-I tumors showed p16 negativity and abnormal p53 patterns.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative illness with a typical age of onset exceeding 65 years of age. The age dependency of the condition led us to track the appearance of DNA damage in the frontal cortex of individuals who died with a diagnosis of AD. The focus on DNA damage was motivated by evidence that increasing levels of irreparable DNA damage are a major driver of the aging process.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the dorsum of the tongue is extremely rare, and it clinically resembles various benign lesions. Somatic mutations in TP53 and some driver genes were implicated in the development of SCC; however, the somatic genetic characteristics of dorsal tongue SCC remain unknown. With a detailed analysis of gene mutations in dorsal tongue SCC, we aimed to better understand its biology.

Introduction: Immunostaining criteria for p16 positivity in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma have been laid down by College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The staining should be of moderate to strong intensity seen in 70 percent of the tumor cells. Recent studies have pointed out that a small minority of cases are missed using p16 as the surrogate marker at above mentioned cut off.

Objective: The present study evaluates the immunoexpression of p16 and Ki-67 in cervical squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL) and carcinomas and correlates their expression with clinicopathological features and HPV-DNA status.

Material And Methods: A total 36 included cases of SIL and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) were subjected to p16 and Ki-67 immunostaining. p16 staining was evaluated depending on grading, distribution, localization pattern, intensity and IHC score.
